Before our son Hayden was born, my wife Eli and I had a tradition of driving up to Flagstaff every October to celebrate our anniversary. Getting away to the Arizona high country for an overnight stay as a couple is harder these days, so for Eli’s birthday this year, we made it a family trip with our little guy and his GiGi (my mother-in-law Liz). While there, I picked up a Hot Wheels version of the 1938 Phantom Corsair in hopes of carrying a different tradition into its next generation.

Everywhere we look, there is an automotive proprietor offering a new futuristic feature. Some have increased their vehicles’ self-driving capabilities, while others offer displays of flying vehicles to entice new fans to their respective brands. All these forward-facing features are good, but it seems companies have become so focused on technology that the driving experience falls by the wayside. With the unveiling of the Porsche Mission S, the automaker proves you can provide a futuristic design and prioritize the driving experience without fancy gadgets.

By now, we’ve all seen Elon’s latest advancement in the new Tesla Roadster. When it was first unveiled, it broke the Internet with tricks like flying over obstacles, driving up a wall, and staying upside down in a manner reminiscent of Spider-Man. Even with all that pizzazz and showmanship, Elon actually created a supercar that might be worth looking forward to — if it ever comes to fruition.

• Exotics on Broadway Recap • Want to buy or sell a collector vehicle? ClassicCars.com makes it easy with a trusted online marketplace built for enthusiasts
Exotics on Broadway has become one of the biggest draws of Monterey Car Week because it puts an enormous amount of rare machinery in one place and makes it accessible to anyone who wants to walk through. That accessibility is also what changes the character of the event. With crowds this large, the cars can start to feel less like individual pieces of engineering and more like part of a constant stream of attention-grabbing machinery. You might see a Daytona SP3, then a Jesko, then a Venom F5 Roadster, and barely have time to process any of them before the next car pulls focus. That raises an interesting question: when an event is packed with this many extraordinary cars, does it make them feel even more special, or does seeing so many at once start to dilute what makes each one significant?

It’s no secret that the Chevrolet Corvette was lackluster in its initial form. For 1955, Chevrolet made the all-new 265ci V-8 engine available, creating the Corvette that should have been from the beginning. Improvements for 1956 included a fine restyle and the availability of dual quads, but patient folks were rewarded in 1957 with the small-block being punched to 283ci and the availability of a four-speed manual and fuel injection — quite exotic for the time, and putting the Corvette on parity with the best that Europe had to offer.

The 1930s arguably was the most important automotive decade since the advent of the automobile. A lot of interesting developments happened in America during this time: streamlining, multiple-cylinder engines (especially Ford mainstreaming the V-8, plus the advent of V-16 engines), “Turret Top” all-steel bodies, Dubonnet independent front suspension, and hydraulic brakes, among others.
We have four 1930s cars currently listed for sale on ClassicCars.com. Can you tell us what they share in common?

According to AAA, the average cost of regular-grade unleaded fuel in the United States is $4.33 a gallon, which is higher than last year’s average of $3.06. Some ways to help offset this increase in fuel costs are to keep your tires properly inflated, avoid “jackrabbit” starts and, unfortunately, cut down on late-night ice cream or taco runs. Something else to consider would be changing vehicles to something that gets 50-plus MPG, like the 2027 Toyota Camry Hybrid.

In the 1975 film “Moonrunners,” audiences were introduced to a Southern family that was known for its quick wit, long drawls and, of course, moonshine. Director Gy Waldron loved Country Music Hall of Famer Waylon Jennings’ narration as The Balladeer so much that he kept the Country crooner in the same role for an inspired television series he was working on called “The Dukes of Hazzard.” Jennings’ voice became integral to the show, including the “Good Ol’ Boys” theme song. However, when most of us think of the series, our first thought looks something like our Pick of the Day. The year 1955 brought about some of Detroit’s most exciting innovations when it came to automotive engineering. Chevrolet introduced the 265ci OHV V-8 in the Bel Air, revolutionizing Americans’ expectations of engine performance. Ford launched its two-seat Thunderbird, and overall domestic production reached a staggering 9.2 million vehicles. Indeed, it was a great time to be an automotive enthusiast.

Weathered finishes are often worn on classic cars as a point of pride, the same way that a badge of honor might be displayed on a seasoned veteran.
Patina is all the rage — it demonstrates a vehicle’s authentic history in a way that a brand-new paint job can’t convey. We recently talked a little about how and why “intentionally rough” finishes are so popular in the rat rod segment, but the trend extends to all areas of the classic car realm.

Luke and Diego compare two exotic cars that came at the end of two very different eras of American performance. In one corner is a 2022 Ford GT, a 660-horsepower mid-engine supercar developed with racing at the core of its identity. This particular car is the only Ford GT finished in Diamond Blue. With just 41 miles on the odometer, it sold for $913,000 at the Barrett-Jackson 2026 Columbus Auction.

In Season 16, Episode 13 of “The Simpsons,” Homer buys a recreational vehicle, parks it in his front yard, and moves in by himself, ignoring his family. When Marge goes to confront him, he dramatically says, “Oh, yeah, Marge? What about my womanly needs?” and drives away. Perhaps Homer would embrace Acura’s new portfolio for 2027 because it’s possible his needs will be met.
