Am I the only one who suspects that there's a cabal of liberacy advocates who realized that the best way to get teenagers to read books is to make them think that there's something salacious in them?
I'm guessing @andrew_leach and @politicalham might have something to say about this story:

The good: Hermes has accepted my article «The Letters of Agrippa II and the Sourcing & Early Dissemination of Josephus' Bellum (Vita 365–7)».
The bad: both reviewers raised reasonable concerns re: part IV.
The ugly: addressing R1's concerns will make R2's worse and vice versa.

Google and Meta search both report that Cape Breton Island has its own time zone 12 minutes ahead of mainland Nova Scotia time because they are both drawing that information from a Beaverton article I wrote in 2024
Cool class last week. We were looking at one of the Acts of the Arval brethren and one of the students asked how the dating worked: so many days before the Ides of November, 224 CE. We worked through it to discover that it was dated 1800 years to the day ago!

Note: If you've heard me speak at Columbia or Berkeley this semester, this paper may seem familiar. This version will be tailored however to speak to numismatic points of interest. It will be presented in November at McMaster with a greater historical focus.

Celebrating 500 years to the month since the publication of the oldest Latin edition that the TLL still cites as a standard reference text: the 1524 Froben edition of the Latin Josephus! (hat tip: Bl)
Today is the first day of my 30th (!) year teaching at McMaster. (The footrace between retirement and senility continues.)
All I can see now is an arm hole problem: @dieworkwear
Donald Trump claims to be better looking than Kamala Harris. One should note, however, that he wears more make-up than her.
It is hard to believe, but it was forty years ago today that I bought my first computer: a 128k (!) Mac.
I just had a haircut in Naples that was a life-affirming experience

My selfie stick, some Neapolitan proudly wields;
I left it behind in his cab, rushing for a train.

Trigger warning for those who are traumatized by their own travel nightmares. Flight to Rome last night. At boarding time, there seems to be a delay as we all stand around. Then a delay until 3 am (!). 1/x
Then at 2 am the flight is cancelled, with an automatic rebooking to the Friday night. Home by about 3:30 am. (But at least in our own bed.)
