Amanda Seyfried says she turned down Guardians of the Galaxy because she thought a talking tree and raccoon in space would ruin her career
"I think turning down Guardians of the Galaxy was just I mean, it’s it was so obvious to me at the time. I’m like, this is not going to be a hit. Like they’re talking, the tree and the raccoon are talking to each other. They’re in space. And also they’re all in space. Yeah. And I was just like I I this will ruin my career if this is bad. And there’s a high chance that this could be bad"
"I mean, obviously I was wrong. But I still don’t take back that decision. I made it for myself. I made it for my my family that I knew I wanted to have. And I and I just don’t want to spend all the time in the makeup trailer"
"I just I I I I don’t I can’t sit still anyway. Um and I really don’t like stunts and I don’t like heights and I don’t like pretending the entire world. I need something to hold on to"
"Not saying it’s not. It’s just not for me"
Ed Harris says a lot of what he brings to soldiers on screen comes from veterans he knew, including a Vietnam vet he lived with who had lost an arm and a leg
"I got to know a lot of guys from a VFW post in Naugatuck, Connecticut"
"he had lost his right arm and his left leg, he had a hook on his right arm"
"and he was suffering, man."
"It's just, you know, it's in there. So it comes out."
That's the difference between researching a part and having lived right next to it. He wasn't interviewing this man for a role, he was working a gas station with him. Next time Ed Harris plays a guy who's carrying something heavy, now you know where it comes from.

Lucasfilm should take her up on this. She already proved on Ted Lasso that she can play someone cold on the surface and warm underneath, and Star Wars villains work best when you can tell they used to believe in something. Give her an Imperial officer with an actual backstory and she'd steal every scene she's in.
During her appearance on 'The Jennifer Hudson Show', Hannah Waddingha shared her desire to be in a 'Star Wars' film:
“I need to be in any Star Wars. Anything with a lightsaber, without a lightsaber, with a double-ended lightsaber, with a mask, without a mask, wiping the screen, sweeping up.
Playing one of those characters with a big long nose or like one eye falling off or anything, Jon Favreau. What about Grogu’s mom? I am obsessed with Star Wars.”

Peter Dinklage says Leonardo DiCaprio walked right past him in New York and nobody noticed
"I was being harassed a little bit, you know, people mean well"
"Leonardo DiCaprio walked right by me in a baseball cap and sunglasses."
"God, they don't even know because they're not looking for Leo. They just see me"
"the other 20% you just want to give them a lecture."
Same hat, same sunglasses, same street. DiCaprio gets to disappear because nobody expects him there. Dinklage can't, because his is the face people are already looking for.

A one-man show is about the hardest thing a comic can sign up for. There's no co-star to lean on and no editor to fix a slow night. That has always been his strength, though. The best bits from his years hosting the Oscars felt half made up on the spot, so I'd love to see how much of that looseness makes it into a scripted play.
Billy Crystal joins the show to talk his new one-man play 860 tonight! #FallonTonight
Michelle Pfeiffer says Taylor Sheridan wouldn't send her a script for The Madison, so she ended up signing on without reading a page
"Actually, I committed, there was no script."
"I said great, so I'd love to read something, and he said no."
"we went back and forth for a couple of weeks and then I realized that was not a battle I was going to win."
"So I committed sight unseen."
She's been a movie star for over 40 years and she still had to blink first against the guy behind Yellowstone. Two weeks of holding out for a script that didn't exist yet, then a flat yes. Honestly, two weeks is a pretty good fight.

Kathy Bates says she was sure she never thanked her mother in her Misery Oscar speech, then the interviewer showed her the tape
"She gave up her retirement because I was born so late in life to them."
"When I won the Oscar for Misery, she said, I don't know what all the excitement about, you didn't discover the cure for cancer."
"Why did I think I didn't thank her?"
"Because she should have had my life."
"I wanted her spirit to come into me and enjoy everything I was enjoying because of what she'd given up."
Her mom's whole review of the Oscar was that she didn't cure cancer, and Kathy still believed she had shorted her that night. Then she watches herself thank her mom at home, right there in the speech. Some people never stop trying to pay their parents back. You can hear it in how quiet she gets at the end.

Mark Hamill says he was completely relaxed at his Joker audition because he was sure they would never cast Luke Skywalker
"if they think Mr. Mom can't play Batman, how are they gonna feel about Luke Skywalker playing the Joker?"
"And because of that, I went in knowing I couldn't get it."
"They had one drawing in black and white of the Joker. The only note was, don't think Nicholson."
"So I was completely relaxed until they said, you got it."
That audition turned into Batman: The Animated Series, and for a lot of people his is still the Joker voice they hear in their head. The fans were so busy being mad about Michael Keaton that it took all the pressure off him.

Sally Field says Robin Williams shut down filming on Mrs. Doubtfire for the day when he found out her father had just died
"I got a call from the doctor that my father had had another massive stroke."
"But please lean down and tell him that Sally says goodbye."
"I was doing the scene about the kids being taken away from the father. It was what happened to my father."
"And Robin turned around and said, that's it for the day, guys. We're just wrapped here. We're done for the day."
She went straight from that phone call to a scene about a family getting split up, and she was a child of divorce herself. Nobody on that set knew. Robin just noticed something was off and asked her. Then he did the one thing the guy at the top of the call sheet can always do. He ended the day and walked her out himself. More than thirty years later she still tells it like it happened last week.

Billy Bob Thornton says Billy Wilder told him he was too ugly to be a leading man and too pretty to be a character actor, so he should write his own stories
"He goes, so you want to be an actor, huh?"
"He said, you're too ugly to be a leading man."
"And he said, you're too pretty to be a character actor."
"He goes, write your own stories, create your own characters, don't stand in line with everybody else."
Wilder didn't even remember saying it. Thornton took it literally anyway, and years later he wrote Sling Blade, played Karl himself and won the Oscar for the screenplay. Pretty good return on one tray of hors d'oeuvres.

Helen Mirren says she put off becoming an American citizen for years because it felt like a betrayal of being British
"I resisted for many years because I kind of felt it was a betrayal of being British."
"But I didn't fully grasp the fact that you could actually have two passports."
"They do a lovely thing when you arrive in America with an American passport."
"They say, welcome home."
This is the woman who won an Oscar for playing the Queen, and her big hang-up turned out to be fine print about dual citizenship. Once she figured that out, she went for it. Of all the things that could make Helen Mirren cry, I would not have bet on passport control.

A shirtless guy with a huge beard is driving a kid past mansion gates in an old luxury car, and he pitches his big plan: he's going to make the kid a famous TikToker.
The kid asks what TikTok is. He admits he's never been on it.
Then he talks himself into a haircut, a new tattoo, new clothes, and somehow lands on being a rapper shooting a music video.
Full confidence, zero clue. That's the whole charm of this scene.

An action hero who can't get hurt is the most boring thing in movies.
John McClane spends half of Die Hard barefoot on broken glass. At one point he's sitting in a bathroom pulling shards out of his feet and asking Al to tell Holly he's sorry, because he's not sure he's walking out of that building. Rocky goes the distance with Apollo Creed and still loses the decision. Indiana Jones gets beat up in almost every fight he's in.
That's why those movies still hold up. You believed the guy could lose.
Now a lot of big action movies hand you a hero who gets hit by a car, shakes it off and makes a joke. Nothing costs him anything, so nothing means anything. The fights get bigger every year and you care a little less every time.
I'll take a guy limping into the third act over a guy who was never in real danger, every single time.
Who's the last action hero you watched and honestly thought he might not make it?
Sam Elliott says a big agent flipped through his photos and told him to go back to Portland or get rid of the way he talks
"He's sitting there and he's looking through my book, and looking through it."
"If I were you, I'd go back to Portland."
"And if you're not gonna do that, I'd get a voice and diction teacher"
"And I didn't take his advice on either count"
The voice that agent wanted gone is the same one that played the Stranger in The Big Lebowski and has done Smokey Bear for years. He never fixed it. He just kept showing up with it until the whole business came around. Best career advice in this clip is the advice he ignored.
