LeBron James was born to a 16-year-old single mother in Akron, Ohio. He bounced between friends just to have a place to sleep. Then this country handed him everything. It gave him over $500 million in NBA salary and over $1 billion more in endorsements and business deals. Forbes puts his net worth at $1.4 billion. He was the first active NBA player in history to become a billionaire. And when the national anthem plays for the country that made all of that possible, he can't give it two minutes of respect. No hand over his heart. No standing still. He's goofing around, flailing his arms, flapping around, pretending to shoot a basketball, doing literally anything except honoring the flag that turned a kid from Akron into a billionaire. That's not a protest. That's not a statement. That's just disrespect. Millions of Americans work their whole lives and never see a fraction of what this country gave him. Men and women died so he could play a game for a living in front of sold-out arenas. The least he could do is stand there and act like it means something.

Pitchers: • Be careful of falling into patterns with pitch selection. • Command the inside part of the plate. • Goal = Be able to throw all your pitches in any count to any location. • Always look at pitch execution before second guessing pitch selection. • Develop a bullpen routine that gives attention to every pitch type and location you want to be able to execute in a game. • Become an expert at controlling the running game. • BACK UP BASES!! • Thank and respect your catchers. • Take care of your arm and body. • Study throwing/pitching mechanics. • If your team isn’t providing time to throw weekly bullpens, get it done on your own time. NO EXCUSES! • Play catch with a purpose. • Be the best at PFP. • Pick your teammates up when they make mistakes. • Goal = NO WALKS! • Attack the zone and make them earn their way on base. • Hitting is hard, stop thinking they will hit every mistake you make. Challenge them! • Be the mentally toughest most prepared player on the field.

Unpopular opinion: Undisciplined players don’t happen by accident. They are often the reflection of undisciplined coaching. Players imitate what coaches consistently demonstrate, not what they occasionally demand.

Dear Parents: We all know many coaches can be better at how they plan and utilize team practice time. But let’s make sure we are clear about something, your athletes development is not solely on them. In fact, they are just a small piece. To blame them for your athletes lack of production, is a big mistake. Before even second guessing your athletes coaches, answer these questions: • How much does your athlete really love their sport(s)? • How much time do they spend on their own daily/weekly practicing their sport(s)? • What is their attitude like when with their team and things aren’t going well? • Are they a good teammate? • How’s their focus? • Are they able to apply what they are learning? • Are they in the right situation for their ability level? • Are they accountable for their mistakes or do they have a habit of blaming and excuse making? Great coaches can make a huge difference for players BUT they are temporary. Check your athletes habits before anything else.

Hitters: ⚾️Challenge yourself to put the ball in play ⚾️Take pride in not striking out ⚾️Focus on quality AB’s ⚾️Be obsessed with putting the ball on the barrel Try it, and I bet your batting average will improve, your power numbers will increase and your on base % will skyrocket. There’s a lot to be said for just putting the ball in play and finding barrel🙏🏽💯 #BaseballTruth

Coaches: Your players will typically do what they’re allowed to do. 👉🏼You allow bad body language… They’ll probably have it 👉🏼You allow laziness… They’ll take advantage of it 👉🏼You allow punk attitudes… They’ll be disrespectful 👉🏼You allow arrogance & cockiness… They’ll be selfish IT’S YOUR JOB TO HOLD THEM ACCOUNTABLE, HAVE STRUCTURE AND DISCIPLINE, AND FOLLOW THROUGH! 👉🏼They might not like it in the moment, but they will appreciate it and respect you for it later. You’re either helping them become better people, or you’re encouraging them in their wrongdoings. #BaseballTruth

H.S. pitcher comes into the game and every hitter should be locked into his first 8 pitches. Free looks. Free information. Velocity. Shape. Timing. Command. Instead, half the dugout is joking around, or not paying attention… then shocked when the first AB is terrible.

If you’re graduating high school and heading off to play college baseball - you better show up in the best shape of your life, and you better not be rusty. You’ll be playing scrimmage games within a couple weeks of getting to campus. College coaches don’t care, just play better. Too many kids are taking the summer before showing up to college off. In many cases, you’re setting yourself up for failure. You signed up to be a college athlete - you don’t get to do what normal students do anymore.

It’s always great in H.S. Varsity Baseball when you roll out 4-5 different arms in a game & the other team throws their top 1-2 guys and you still win the game. Depth matters. Pitching development matters. Building an entire staff matters. Love this….

“But are they having fun?” We’ve heard this comment often over the years when talking about the game. Some think we can be “too serious” when talking about development, strategy, and coaching. The interesting part of that thought and comment is, success is “fun!” Being good at what you do is “fun!” Seeing, and feeling, improvement is “fun!” On the flip side, continually making mistakes, being over matched, losing constantly, would be described as “not fun” by the same folks who make those comments. This game is hard and takes a lot of work and dedication to be consistently good at it. Passion is a requirement. Sweat is a requirement. Work is a requirement. Falling down and learning how to get back up is a requirement and to folks who genuinely love the game, that’s all part of the “fun!”

Nobody talks about what it costs a school when a good teacher walks out the door for good. The kids lose the relationship. The department loses the institutional knowledge. The next hire starts from zero. And everyone pretends that's just how it goes.

WE NEED TO CLEAN UP AMATEUR BASEBALL. Coaches all over the country, challenging each other. Players yelling and calling other coaches pussies! Constant chirping in dugouts, especially high school. This absolutely has to stop. We don’t need some kind of “nice Coach certification“ or anything like that. The people that are out in front need to stand up for what’s right and bring back civility and responsibility. It’s literally an epidemic. What can we do to fix this?

Sometimes you have to remind yourself about how blessed you are. The problems you face in life are miniscule compared to what others are going through. Don't be overwhelmed or anxious. Everything always works out! Find the positive in everything and stay grateful for each day. Keep pushing forward! 🙏🏻
