Scouting a team that's only played 2 games?
Here's what I trust:
• Who plays late in close games
That tells you who the coach trusts, and that doesn't change much.
• Their go-to set out of timeouts
Coaches usually run what they've practiced the most.
• Their ball screen coverage
That's a choice. Hedge, drop, switch, or trap. It usually holds.
What I don't trust yet: shooting percentages.
A player who's 1/9 from three after two games isn't necessarily a bad shooter. Check her history. If she shot 36% last year, I'm still guarding her like a shooter.
A team shooting 45% from three after two games probably won't keep doing it.
Trust choices over results early in the season.
What do you trust when you only have two games of film?

Charlese McClendon had a double-double for Alabama State yesterday in their OT Loss to West Georgia… 13 points and 19 rebounds.

My latest Substack is personal for me in so many ways.
Sharing my thoughts on Texas Southern, the reaction to its game against LSU, & why the human stories behind the headlines deserve to be told.
There's always more to the story than a scoreboard.

Correct and confirmed. Out of hoops, moving back to Louisiana and have transitioned into medical sales. A 13 year career was a blessed and fun one but my family matters more. God bless 🖤🙏🏽

On this day in 1996, Michael Jordan dropped 50 on the Miami Heat.
Before the game, Jordan read a quote from Tim Hardaway in the local paper saying, “This year the Chicago Bulls are going to take us seriously.”
That was all the motivation MJ needed.

A consensus first-team All-American wide receiver as a sophomore on USC’s 2003 National Championship team, he set USC records for touchdown receptions in a career (30, since broken), season (16 in 2003) and game (3).
