We got a little spicy with this week's episode of Fast Talk, diving into nutrition myths on social media. Fun conversation about peptides, GLP1, supplements, and nutrition influencers. Big thanks to @AndieRd for bringing her expertise fasttalklabs.com/fast-talk/t…

I love learning about what makes the best athletes tick. In our most recent episode of Fast Talk Dr Jeff Troesch, author of One Day Better shares the wisdoms of secrets of top athletes from a range of sports. It was a fascinating conversation! fasttalklabs.com/fast-talk/p…

I've been doing a 6 week sodium challenge - trying to eat 1,500mg per day or less. It's been pretty extraordinary. All motivated by research for our newest episode about salt showing the science of sodium has been flipped upside down. Exciting episode! fasttalklabs.com/fast-talk/o…

This post from Dr Jeukendrup I agree with
Electrolytes are heavily marketed to athletes, but does the science support the hype? This blog examines sodium’s role in hydration, why most athletes do not need targeted replacement, and when it may matter in very long events. Click here: mssa.app/fg0

The debate about high carbohydrate diets in endurance athletes rages on! Two top names in Sports Nutrition, Dr Louise Burke and Dr Timothly Noakes published their positions in @AJCNutrition. It's a nuanced debate - I'm glad we explored it! fasttalklabs.com/fast-talk/t…

At Zone 2, mitochondria are at metabolic equilibrium and at the highest operating capacity. This is why it is a challenging intensity for well-trained athletes (it must be). Lactate is being produced at a meaningful rate as glycolytic rate is moderate, but the mitochondrial lactate oxidation complex (mLOC) is clearing it at the same rate, converting it back to pyruvate and feeding it directly into oxidative phosphorylation. The lactate shuttle, both within and between cells and tissues, is running at full capacity. Fat oxidation is at its peak. The NAD⁺/NADH ratio is stable, reflecting a healthy redox environment in which glycolysis and mitochondrial processing remain tightly coupled. The system is maximally stimulated while still in balance. This is precisely why Zone 2 is probably one of the most powerful sustained training stimulus for mitochondrial adaptation. Mitochondrial biogenesis requires that the organelle be pushed close to its capacity. Zone 2 does that, while keeping the internal environment stable enough that the stimulus can be sustained for a prolonged period and recovered from it efficiently. -And with all this said, high intensity training is absolutely key for performance. substack.com/@inigosanmillan…

A new study shows the difference between podium finishers at spring classics compared to riders outside the top 5. They showed some interesting differences, but did they miss the boat. We talked about whether the differences were training or pack skills? fasttalklabs.com/fast-talk/f…
