Thomas Mahler, director of No Rest for the Wicked and creator of Ori, has launched a new review site called VideoGamesCritic. He wants give players more weight than professional critics, Two-thirds of the score comes from Steam users, while critics make up the remaining third. Mahler says sites like Metacritic and OpenCritic mainly show what critics thought about a game, while his site focuses more on what the people actually playing it think. “Press still counts, it just can’t outvote the people who bought the game.” The site also gives reviewers and outlets a trust score based on how closely their opinions match player reactions. It also takes newer Steam reviews more seriously, so a game that improves over time can see its score change. Mahler calls VideoGamesCritic “the one source of truth for gamers.”

After Ubisoft cancelled its Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake, GOG has released an enhanced version of the original classic. The original Sands of Time is now part of GOG’s Preservation Program, with several improvements for modern PCs. GOG says: “Ubisoft’s remake was officially cancelled, so we took the matters into our own hands.” They also described the game as “a masterpiece” that “deserves to be played as intended.”

A Japanese indie developer added full Czech language support to BALL BOY Simulator after noticing that only one person from the Czech Republic had wishlisted the game. Instead of thinking it wasn’t worth the effort, the dev decided that one player was enough. He also said the idea was inspired by the Czech baseball team’s performance at the 2023 World Baseball Classic Even Warhorse Studios, the team behind Kingdom Come: Deliverance, gave the developer a shoutout for the dedication.
