Round 2: System Design
Problem: Design a Lead Allocation System
The objective was to design a system that efficiently assigns incoming leads to call agents based on their capacity and the regions they serve.
Requirements:
- Each call agent has a predefined capacity and a set of regions they serve.
- Each incoming lead belongs to a specific region.
- Assign leads to eligible agents without exceeding their capacity.
- Support releasing leads from agents when they are no longer being served.
- Provide agent-level statistics, including the leads currently assigned to each agent.
Key Areas Discussed:
- Identifying core entities and defining their relationships.
- Designing the lead assignment and release workflows.
- Writing pseudocode for the primary operations.
- Handling concurrency to prevent agents from exceeding their assigned capacity.
- Reducing agent lookup time using indexing and caching.

System design interview question:
You have a distributed database across 3 regions.
Which would you choose?
A) Strong consistency
B) Eventual consistency
AI BREAKDOWN: Dessa by @blocks
What if an AI could learn to talk without ever reading a single word?
That's what makes Dessa interesting.
Built by Block, Dessa takes a different approach to voice AI:
→ Works directly with audio instead of relying on text transcripts.
→ Can listen and speak at the same time.
→ Handles interruptions, pauses, laughter, and other natural speech patterns.
→ Designed to run locally on powerful hardware.
The interesting part? It was trained from scratch using human conversation audio, without text or pretrained models.
Still a research preview, but definitely one to watch.
Could this be the future of voice AI @jack ?
