Cover of the day: X-Men #141 (Jan 1981). John Byrne and Terry Austin's "Days of Future Past" cover, with Wolverine and Kate Pryde in front of that wall of slain and apprehended X-Men. One of the most homaged covers ever 🔥

The Green Children of Woolpit (12th Century) 🎃
Lean in a little closer to the flames and listen carefully.
In the 12th century, harvest workers in the English village of Woolpit were tending to the fields when they heard a low, unnatural crying coming from the edge of the woods.
When they walked over to investigate, they stepped up to a deep wolf pit and looked down into the shadows.
Sitting in the dirt were two children, a brother and a sister, wearing clothing made from a strange, seamless metallic fabric that no local tailor had ever seen.
When the villagers reached out to help them, the children backed away in absolute terror, speaking in a rapid, unknown language that sounded completely foreign to human ears.
And then the firelight caught their faces, revealing skin that was a distinct, sickening shade of green.
The villagers brought the lost children into town and tried to feed them, but they refused every plate of bread and meat placed before them, weeping softly as if they were starving in a strange land.
It was only when someone brought in freshly harvested green beans that the children tore them open, eating only the raw inner seeds.
Months passed, and as the surviving girl adapted to normal food, the pale green tint on her skin slowly faded away and she learned to speak English.
When the villagers finally asked her where she came from and how she ended up in Woolpit, her answer chilled them to the bone.
She said she came from an underground world where the sun never rises, a realm of perpetual twilight where every living creature was green.
She recalled her and her brother following their fathers herd into a deep cavern, hearing a loud, terrifying sound like giant chiming bells, and then tumbling through the dark until they woke up blinded by our bright, burning sun.
Nobody ever found the cavern they came from, leaving us to wonder what dark, silent world still exists beneath our feet...
...even tonight 🎃
Thanks @CopperleafBuild !! You are awesome 🤘🤘
