If the team selection is truly based on merit and form, then Havertz hasn’t deserved a start over Gyökeres for the past 5–6 games.
Gyökeres has absolutely leapfrogged him in every aspect: goalscoring, creativity, hold-up play, link-up play, everything.
Havertz wouldn’t even have the motivation to improve himself when his place in the starting line-up is guaranteed, regardless of how badly he performs.

Havertz has it easy. He’s playing alongside Arsenal’s best double pivot and creative unit, yet he still can’t generate a quality, clear-cut chance.
Gyökeres doesn’t enjoy this sort of luxury. Whenever he plays, he has to make do with Merino as his No. 10 and Madueke as his RW.
