David has been a PVS athlete for 3 years. Everyone loves David. He’s truly a genuine guy in a world full of fake people. David is a high academic go-getter. He just happened to also love Baseball & all things Penn State. Sports Debates would get heated in the gym between the Legion of Ohio State, Pitt and Penn State fans (lead by David). Whatever David decides to do, he’s going to do well. My favorite thing about David is the complete decency he carries himself with an all aspects of his life. He will beat you and not need to tell you how great he is. In fact, he’ll go out this way to tell you “man it was tough getting you out”… as he did in his most recent game against @bp_hawks. In the post game handshake line- , he stopped to talk to fellow PVS athlete and Bethel Park cleanup hitter @HladioMichael just to tell him how tough it was to pitch to him. I spoke to both Michael and David after the game- exchanging texts and laughing about it. I was just filled with so much pride b/c baseball is about finding out about yourself & what you’re made of when a worthy adversary pushes back. And at the end- you can stop and say “you were great” -to the other side regardless of who won. We have forgotten that collectively. It’s amazing when we see young players remind us. I am Looking forward to watching David Pitch his final WPIAL games. I hope he decides to pick up club baseball in Happy Valley annnnnnnd maybe be the next Michael Krauza … who knows?????. If David shows up throwing 95 as a Club player his junior year @ PSU… I’ll be sure to shoot a text or 12 to Coach Gambino & let him know. 😂 Stranger things have happened 😉 ….Like Michael Krauza getting to the @Mets AA club despite never making his high school team. With Baseball- you never know !! And David Oberschelp - in my opinion- is worthy of the Baseball stars aligning for him. Thank you David. It’s been fun watching you grow up. You’re one hell of a ball player. …And an even better young man! -Coach Matt
