My new PKM system case study:
🌍 The environment for accelerated expertise in geopolitics
This is by far my most complex Tana build.
I've embedded all my Tana & PKM experience there:
→ Using first principles thinking to deconstruct the domain
→ Designing complex ontology/scaffolding with LLMs
→ Parsing data & enriching the environment with it
→ Building & applying custom frameworks
→ Extending the system to cover more use cases
→ Changing representations for better sensemaking
→ Linking components with the help of Tana AI
→ Making the most of Tana Paste to sync different tools
→ Incorporating & integrating diverse knowledge...
knowledge from domains like:
→ History
→ Geography
→ Political science
→ Macroeconomics
→ International relations
→ Cultural studies
→ Game theory
→ Complexity
→ Psychology
Super hyped about this one✨

The first version of KNOWLEDGE DEV is here!
KNOWLEDGE DEV is my PKM method that entirely relies on the paradigm of computable knowledge.
It offers an alternative PKM alphabet:
a set of concepts & mental models → integrated into principles & use cases.
It's a new take on how you develop, process, enrich, compress & update your knowledge:
0️⃣ Knowledge development = mapping the unknown
1️⃣ Your attention follows the flow
2️⃣ Flow is never linear, it is guided by sense of direction
3️⃣ Flow's geometry is shaped by attractors
4️⃣ Flow computes multiple threads
5️⃣ Constrains channel the flow & make it coherent
6️⃣ Structures = set of constraints
7️⃣ Filter is a specific type of constraint
8️⃣ Part of the flow can be turned into a protocol
9️⃣ Snapshots allow you to resume the game from where you left off
This is just a brief of course😉

The best way to learn is from experience.
The second best is from other's experiences.
That's the goal of the PKM Community Showcase next weekend 🫶🏼
Grab your coffee, hot chocolate, tea, or beer and join us at the:
First PKM Community Showcase!
A "share your screen" event to learn about:
• best PKM practices, and
• what didn't work so well 😕
Learn from other people's experiences and share yours!

My new Tana Template is OUT🚀
It's a system for researching/exploring complex problems & subjects.
It's a general framework that you can use for:
→ Data collection & evaluation
→ Analysis & sensemaking
→ Formalizing learnings
→ Synthesizing new knowledge
The system built for the real live case:
Crisis in Higher Education in US
The case is heavily inspired by the series of podcasts by @pmarca & @bhorowitz → @a16z
Some of Marc's and Ben's ideas are directly implemented there:
→ 12 functions of the University
→ 15 University's constituents (actors)
We build the foundation for this system with @Reu_nathaniel @AbhiDalalSD
on my course Advanced Knowledge Systems in Tana

"Silence has been forgotten in the 21st century" - @FisFraga
We are living in an era with overflow of information.
Our attention is the currency.
Remember, outputs reflect inputs.
Practice deliberate consumption:
Quality > quantity.

"Notes don't matter, the ideas they convey is what matters." - @BiaResearcher (again).
Bianca calls ideas: 'objects of attention'.
Imagine looking at a note through a camera lens.
Each note should be focused on one idea. The blur is the context.

AI gives us more time to think.
@TfTHacker lists 3 benefits of AI as a thinking partner:
- Less digging around for information
- Answers what you don't get from Google
- Saves time and lets you focus on thinking
A powerful partner when used well.

Collector's fallacy.
"Collecting a new idea doesn't equal KNOWING a new idea." - @NickMilo
Internalizing an idea is hard, but this helps me:
- make the ideas evolve
- talk about them
- connect them
Don't just collect. Create.

"Knowledge does not exist without a knower." - @BiaResearcher
It exists within our minds.
Therefore, our notes are just a representation of our knowledge.
Capture your unique perspective to help your future self.

@ColliderSpace is my favorite magazine in 2023.
It has been an invaluable resource to level up my thinking.
A space where thoughts collide.

Writing notes down has a series of benefits.
But VISUAL note-taking may have even more. According to @cmil it helps:
• Making complex information more accessible
• Enhancing retention and recall
• Processing information fast
• Seeing the big picture
• Inclusivity

Are complex knowledge management workflows:
1. The ultimate productivity system, or
2. A complete waste of time?
Collider retweeted
Note-taking and knowledge management (KM) are not always the same thing.
But how to move from aimless note-taking to effective note-taking (or KM)?
@BiaResearcher suggests 3 initial steps:
1. Define your purpose
2. Choose your type of knowledge management
3. Build your toolkit
