#CommunityCapital Wish List: Establish a State Income Tax Credit for every dollar that YOU put into local businesses in your community. @smallmart @ComCapCon #ComCap19 – at Detroit, MI
We need policy platforms on a local, state, and federal level to advance #communitycapital, led by @ComCapCoalition.
We need to think about what money means, what wealth is, and why we have an economy built on debt. How much of the wealth we're building is actually wealth, as opposed to extracting resources from land, communities, etc. What future are we investing in?
Could we launch a #classaction suit stating that the 1930 act is unconstitutional because it violates freedom of speech, using #CitizensUnited as a precedent?
Always ask "How Can I Help You?" in every room and convening, in all of our respective communities. --@TLCpower
Approaching education for investors, entrepreneurs, and regulators from an #opensource perspective. --@Cooperative_Cap
Reaching out to professional and trade associations of attorneys, financial planners, etc. to educate them about local investing. --@AngelaBarbash
We need to enable people to use tax-deferred retirement savings for local investing, as in self-directed IRAs or solo 401ks. --@smallmart
We've made it illegal for #investors and #smallbiz owners to talk to each other in early stages. This may make sense for corporate IPOs but does not make sense on a neighborhood or community level. --@smallmart
The @SEC_News should issue a general no action letter about intrastate investment to let states experiment and do what they want with investment opportunities within their own states. --@smallmart
#Michigan (& every other state) should pass a state income tax credit for local investment, a la #NewBrunswick. --@smallmart
We need better financial education for investors to learn how to make and evaluate local investments. And we need to learn how to engage more stakeholders, including state and local govts, private sector, and NGOs to invite them into the movement. --@mspieciak
On a regulatory level, roadblocks have existed for intrastate investments. We've made progress with rule 147A but we haven't yet created exemptions for platforms, broker dealers, and others who assist issuers. --@mspieciak
We also need to change the culture and hold corporations to a higher standard than just creating profits. Corporations also owe an obligation to their employees, customers, communities, etc. to be responsible stewards and citizens. -- @brianbeckon
