Audio from 20-year-old co-pilot Nathalia Gadelha Filgueiras to air traffic control synced to a dramatization of what it may have been like with videos from other Learjet 60s experiencing ice and turbulence. Some may find it distressing. I thought it was weird how in 21 seconds, a situation can go from calm to out of control. It was 21 seconds from the time Nathalia said they needed to climb to when she issued the Mayday. She said they were experiencing moderate turbulence and manageable icing just prior. ATC: "What's the outside air temperature?" Nathalia: "Minus 47 degrees Celsius. We're managing the ice, but it is moderate turbulence." Nathalia: "Now we're picking up precipitation. We need to climb." ATC: "Roger. Climb and maintain." Nathalia: "We're descending 8,000! Mayday, mayday! We're descending 10,000 feet per minute! Declaring emergency 722 Bravo Delta! We are in an overspeed condition, descending 20,000 feet per minute!" According to Aviacionline, the jet's highest horizontal ground speed was 582 mph during its descent. The vertical descent was 370 mph, "the maximum that ADS-B field can encode." The actual speed may have been higher. The jet hit the ground almost straight down in a neighborhood in Palm Springs, Florida. According to the NY Post, Nathalia "texted her boyfriend, Justin, just 10 minutes before the plane crashed, saying only, ‘I’ve got turbulence, I’ve got ice.'” "Filgueiras’s mother, Camila, and her stepfather confirmed to The Post that she was the co-pilot flying a Learjet 60 from Austin, Texas, to the Bahamas when it entered a steep nosedive." the report added.
