🎄If you’re travelling to the Manchester Christmas markets, Northern is planning to run double units (6 carriages) on our line on Saturdays from 7th Nov until 12th Dec 🎄
❌ But for the 3rd Christmas running, there are still no trains at all on Sundays! 😡
Trains are severely disrupted this afternoon due to an electrical supply failure…check before travelling!
Replying to @northernassist
⚠️Due to this major disruption, no trains or replacement buses are operating and we strongly advise you not to travel.⚠️

Disruption continues this morning at Manchester Piccadilly - the line is expected to reopen later this morning but services are likely to continue to be disrupted for some time - check before travelling!
** All trains are currently cancelled on our route due to OLE damage on the Piccadilly approaches, please check before travelling **
Note that the ticket office is currently closed due to a leak in the roof and will remain so until it can be repaired
Manchester Piccadilly is on track to reopen tomorrow morning (Monday 23rd Feb) when direct services will resume as normal (except Sundays 😡)
A reminder of the Piccadilly blockade starting this Saturday:
Also note that during this disruption, the 07:39 from Congleton to Manchester and 17:18 from Picc (18:04 at Congleton) will not run. All other trains operate at normal times to/from Stockport (for buses to Piccadilly)
Half Term Engineering Work:
From Saturday 14th to Sunday 22nd February, Network Rail is renewing the track layout at the southern throat of Manchester Piccadilly.
During this period, all trains at Congleton will start/terminate at Stockport with bus replacements into Manchester/
Emergency services dealing with an incident in the Longport area, no trains running in that area - bus replacements currently running between Stoke and Macclesfield via Congleton until the line reopens
Details of your after midnight trains for NYE celebrations…❌
(This isn’t London, you know!!)
As we’re actually in the North, trains finish earlier than usual, last trains at:
👉 20:24 (19:46 from MAN to SOT)
👉 21:09 (20:55 from SOT to MAN)
Apologies on behalf of the North!
A reminder that today’s last trains are 🎄 19:46 from Manchester, 20:24 at Congleton to Stoke &
🎄 20:55 from Stoke, 21:09 at Congleton to Manchester
Train services resume on Saturday…
🌲🧑🎄 Merry Christmas 🎅🎄
Christmas train services:
⏱️ Christmas Eve - last trains 20:24 to Stoke and 21:09 to Manchester
🎄 Christmas Day & Boxing Day - no trains
✅ Sat 27th - normal service
❌ Sun 28th - bus replacements 😡
✅ Mon/Tue 29th/30th - normal service (22:32 terminates at Stockport)…
❕Timetables change from 14th December ❕
Many operators are making significant changes to their services, but Congleton has little change (!) - please note though that most southbound (Up) services will depart slightly earlier at xx:24 (with the 07:16 retimed to 07:14)…
In today’s ORR release of station usage data for 2024/25, Congleton station has increased patronage ~8% from 2023/24 and this DESPITE the majority of Sundays during the period having NO trains at all @northernassist
➡️ 2023-24: 299,154 entries/exits
➡️ 2024-25: 323,770 ⬆️ 8.2%
❌ Severe disruption this evening due to a combination of the weather and a failed train at Congleton earlier. The 1809 is running about 25L, the 1825 and 1909 are both cancelled - later trains are expected to run but may be similarly disrupted
