One of the best marketing tactics I've seen:
𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗶𝘁𝘆.
People are tired of persuasive language and exaggerated claims.
But some brands do it differently.
Here are 5 ways Patagonia has used honesty to become a billion-dollar company. 👇
The biggest copywriting mistake when creating a website:
Writing "Welcome to my site" in the hero section.
You don't need a thesaurus.
You don't need ChatGPT.
You need your ideas, beliefs, and a spell-checker.
1 way to improve your copywriting (ethically):
𝗔𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗱 𝗲𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗱𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗴𝘂𝗮𝗴𝗲.
Instead, use rational, data-driven messaging to highlight your skills and expertise.
Rationality beats emotional persuasion.
Many people worry that they have nothing interesting to say.
The truth is...
You just have to be relatable. It's better than exciting.
In 2013, I received the greatest compliment a freelancer can get.
A friend of my client hired me.
Here's how I did it (without being an experienced writer):
- Showed a genuine interest in my client's business,
- always delivered more than promised,
- completed tasks WAY before deadlines,
- was happy to make changes and revisions,
- was always friendly.
One of my biggest mistakes as a copywriter was overlooking the power of complementary skills.
Instead of more frameworks, I should have been learning:
- Psychology
- Research skills
- Time management
Find and learn other skills that give you an edge.
As a teacher, I used frameworks to plan all my lessons.
They never got boring.
Or repetitive.
The secret? (it works for writing too)
Don’t be scared to add your own twist.
TL;DR
