The issue isn’t just the cap hit, it’s the refusal to move away from an approach that was nearly 20 years old at the time that resulted in no cup wins. “B-B-But the team in front of Hank wasn’t good enough!” Yeah, that’s the point. You build up a strong team in front of an above average goaltender and you win because you don’t want the play in your own zone constantly. You just want someone good enough to make the big stops when they’re needed. Look at the winners in the cap era. Carolina won 2 cups with goalies who weren’t anywhere close to elite level. Vegas won with Adin Hill. Colorado won with Kuemper. Washington won with a fading Holtby. Bobrovsky was well past his prime. St. Louis with Binnington. Chicago won with Niemi and Crawford. Pittsburgh won 2 with Matt Murray. Detroit with Osgood. Anaheim with a fading Giguere that was sheltered by 40+ minutes a game of Pronger and/or Niedermayer in front of him. Outside of Thomas, Vasilevskiy and Quick, no other goalie when they won was considered elite. Bobrovsky didn’t even get the 2023 Panthers into the playoffs, Alex Lyon did and Bobrovsky’s contract had been considered the worst in the NHL for years to that point, maybe second behind Huberdeau. You cannot build around a goalie and expect to win. Drury had well over a decade of evidence to show that it doesn’t work and despite the fact that he knew the core couldn’t get it done after losing to Florida (he acknowledged this by starting to deal them off) he ties himself to Igor by signing him to a desperation deal to save his job on the same day that he dealt Trouba away, which was the first step in dismantling the core. They should’ve went scorched earth right after the Florida loss, JT Miller should’ve never been brought back (I was horribly wrong about him) and you’d have a ton of cap space plus maybe even more higher picks to build around. Now the plan has to be McDavid, because he pigeonholed them into hockey purgatory, all because he overvalued the position that has been historically valued the least of all of the positions. That’s why no goalie has approached Igor’s AAV since. It’s almost 2 years now. Market hasn’t reset. The AAV’s of the goalies who signed after Igor are closer to Hellebuyck’s than they are Igor’s. The Hellebuyck trade should be an eye opener for many. A quantity over quality return for the only active 3x Vezina winner and only active Hart Trophy winner. But this fanbase will continue to argue that signing Igor was the right move while simultaneously complaining about: 1. The dogshit team in front of him 2. Poor cap management (LOL) 3. The lack of young high end talent (EVEN BIGGER LOL - hope those culture wins were still worth it) Sorry, no one wants to hear it, but I’ll say it. /endrant #NYR
Does anyone seriously think the #NYR would be a significantly better built team if Igor Shesterkin made $8.5M instead of $11.5M? Is a $3M difference really the issue? Every team struggles when they lose their best player, no matter the position. In today’s cap world, the problem is not what Igor makes.

Every Rangers fan who said Igor was overpaid is now watching exactly why making a goalie the linchpin of your team's success is a terrible strategy ... and saying I told you so. #NYR

So a bad team with elite goalie fights for a wild card spot, while a bad team with bad goaltending misses the playoffs. This isn’t the flex you think it is and it’s exactly why this team needs to go scorched earth, but no one wants to have either those conversations. You’re just called a bad fan despite wanting the best possible future for your team and to have your team be built like the other teams who have actually won Stanley cups in the cap era. #NYR

How can you be James Dolan and not fire Chris Drury after reading this
NY Rangers lost about $30.5 million during 2026 fiscal year and $23.3 mil in 2025, according to MSG Rangers' SEC filing. Rangers had $26.8 mill in profits in 2024. Company says "We are likely not to be profitable in the near term unless the Rangers make an extended playoff run."

No, it shows how horribly-constructed this team is that they have to rely on the goalie standing on his head. Even with Igor, you’ll steal a playoff round at best. Which isn’t the goal, but this fanbase praises mediocrity. This team isn’t good no matter who is in the crease.

If this Durzi shit lingers for a while I will once again be very annoyed that the team/players on this team feel the need to play through injuries in fucking October
At #NYR practice, D Sean Durzi is not skating (maintenance) and G James Reimer is out day-to-day with an upper-body injury.

If the Rangers’ one didn’t have the chest logo it’d be pretty much perfect

This team is bad.
The Eagles have been out-gained by 745 yards this season. That's their worst yardage differential through 7 weeks this century. It's over 300 yards worse than any other Eagles team since 2000.

5 years later goat is still doing it ❤️❤️❤️one of the best value contracts ever
Adam Fox, extended 7x$9.5M by NYR, is arguably the top defenceman in the NHL, an elite two-way talent whose uncanny hockey I.Q. has led to amazing impacts at both ends of the ice. #NYR

I’m so fascinated as to the vehement defenses of a year 6 defenseman who’s never been more than a number 6 defenseman It’d be like someone screaming “but Will Levis can make all the throws, he’s such a good athlete if he puts it together”

I love seeing this fanbase complain about Garand LMFAOOOO Just shows how good our goalies have been and how many times they’ve bailed this fucking team OVER AND OVER Why don’t we look at our team/defense?? Game after game with TONS of high danger chances. Unacceptable #NYR
