Excited to share work by Emily Wang & Zhouyu Zhang, in a collab with PKU: Martini 3 CG sims overestimate lipid scrambling, predict it in proteins that don't, and give anomalous binding, from low headgroup polarity. But small parameter refinements fix it. tinyurl.com/m3scramble
Kudos to @ciara__wallis & @yiechanglin for their elegant publication testing #AlphaFold for predicting protein oligomeric states including advice on when it is likely to do well and when it can fail. ππππ #StructuralBiology #AI #Biophysics tiny.cc/oligos
Excited to share this paper from @yiechanglin showing how lipids can move between bacterial membranes along the bridge like protein TamB. Also happy to be able to post the cool movie. π₯π #MDsimulations #StructuralBiology doi.org/10.1016/j.bpj.2026.0β¦
Beginning 2026 with a flipping good paperπOSCA/TMEM63 proteins do double duty: theyβre ion channels andmechanically activated lipid scramblases helping reshape membranes and survive mechanical stress. π@yiechanglin @Charles_D_Cox

Great to see this paper with @whoiselainetao out in print at the Biophysical Journal. Using Alphafold to study conformational transitions in 32 voltage-gated ion channel superfamily members #ionchannel #AI #StructuralBiology

2 yrs ago @yiechanglin sent me this of lipid scrambling by OSCA1.2. Now we show itβs common to WT OSCA/TMEM63 proteins, mechanically activated, cholesterol dependent, and protects cells from damaging forces. Awesome collab with @Charles_D_Cox

πWe are hiring! Seeking a postdoc to use molecular dynamics and AI to understand how ion channels are regulated by membrane lipidsπ
Join us at @ourANU with amazing collaborators and great working conditions!

We show where chloroquine and peptides bind and help explain the polyspecific transport mechanism. (2/2)
Excited to share @john_d_tanner's new work in Nat Coms! We demonstrate how PfCRT, a polyspecific peptide transporter, turns into a drug transporter for antimalarials like chloroquine and why this causes a fitness cost for the malaria parasite (1/2)

Also bittersweet to announce the final work of @whoiselainetao in our lab, using AF2 to study conformational transitions in 32 voltage-gated channel superfamily members π€© we're so excited to watch you Nav-igate the next steps of your career, Dr. Tao π©

Thrilled to share our latest preprint from @yiechanglin & @ciara__wallis showing AF2-Multimer and AF3 can quickly & accurately predict the oligomeric states & structures of proteins (& maybe can identify multiple biologically relevant oligomeric states π)

Big congratulations to the very sharp @whoiselainetao who submitted her PhD last week! Our greatest Nav channel expert is rumoured to be joining the dark side of Kv. #drtao #phdone @ourANU @scienceANU πͺππ©βπ¬π©βπ
Big congratulations to @Riottowow for winning an Anders Early Career Award at @LorneProteins #lorneproteins2025 ! Presenting his work on the lipid lined pore of the OSCA mechanosensitive channel.
Proud of our latest work w/ the Zhang lab showing from structure & simulation how XPR1, the only known human Pi exporter, is regulated by InsP8 & KIDINS220 + Pi selection/permeation by a channel-like knock-kiss-kick mechanism

Our lab has had the best time at @bmh2024Melb !! Enormous congratulations again to our Honours students Emily and Abi on their incredible poster presentationsπ¬π§ͺ and congratulations to all presenters and organisers for putting on such an excellent conference π
So sad to hear that my wonderful PhD supervisor Shin-Ho Chung passed away last week. He made a huge impact on the ion channel community and will be sorely missed. His amazing BD movies will stay forever in my mind. #biophysics #AusBiophysics #ionchannel @BiophysicalSoc
Our own Abi Partridge, Emily Wang, @yiechanglin, and @ciara__wallis are so excited to be in Melbourne for #BMH2024 ππ
Enjoying my last night in Canberra w/ the lab! Parting is such sweet sorrow ... especially when accompanied by frozen yoghurt π¨
Great to visit @Charles_D_Cox at @VictorChangInst with some lab buddies today. Perfect mix of science and cake π
