It’s with great sadness that we’ve been informed that Chris from @CottageAnalytic died on January 18th from Lymphoma. Chris’ wife Jo asked us to let the Fulham community know on her behalf. She said that Chris loved creating the stats and reports about the club, and particularly enjoyed knowing that they were appreciated by so many Fulham fans. Chris will be part of the Celebration/Memorial Match held on Saturday 15th February vs Nottingham Forest. We’d like to extend our sincere condolences to Jo and her family at what must be an incredibly tough time.

Thanks for the shout out. Unfortunately I am dealing with some health issues at the moment, and don't currently have the energy to do the research behind my posts. I hope to be back in the future once I am better again. COYW!!!🖤🤍🖤 Chris

With 8 games played, I thought we are probably approaching a point where the premier league model I have been running has gathered enough data to make some reasonable predictions & observations, so here they are in a thread. Firstly, the predicted league table: (1/14)

Everton: attack and defence both stronger than predicted initially Newcastle: attack much stronger than initially predicted. Defence slightly stronger as well Forest: Defence much stronger than predicted Sheffield: Defence much weaker than predicted (13/14)

West Ham: Defence weaker than predicted Wolves: Attack stronger than predicted in the initial pre-season model. Other than these, the model has not significantly adjusted the team ratings since the start of the season. (14/14)

Time for Vinicius and Iwobi to start the next game? 🤔 See below for how their introduction changed Fulham’s emphasis and made the space for us to finally create the match winning chance against Luton ⬇️

⚡️ 𝗘𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗩𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗶𝘂𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜𝘄𝗼𝗯𝗶! Which brings us to the change that sparked Fulham, Alex Iwobi & Carlos Vinicius provided more direct movement and central threat. This freed up space for the wide players to attack space with momentum, like for our goal. 5/7 🧵

Carlos Vinícius averages 0.47 non-penalty goals per premier league game for Fulham. Since the start of last season, Aleksandar Mitrović achieved 0.44 for the same metric...

Thought it worth comparing the results of Opta's 'super-computer' premier league with my own (running on excel in a 4 year old ASUS Vivobook in case you wondered). The results are pretty similar, we have 9 teams (shown in green) including Fulham (13th) ranked the same. (1/)

In each of those cases my model is more pessimistic on the team in question. The major difference is Chelsea, I have them to finish 4th, Opta has them in 12th. My gut instinct is that somewhere in the middle of those is probably correct, but they are hard to predict... (3/)

thats mostly because there's a long term split between Chelseas 'underlying data' which is good, and the actual results, which are mid-table. Anyway, conclusion is, Opta could have saved a few petaflops by running their model on an old laptop, the results are basically the same
