Great news for Indianapolis and Central Indiana’s workforce. @Walmart recently announced a $250,000 investment in @IndyChamber to support workforce development and connect more Hoosiers with education, training, and career opportunities. I learned HVAC because of investments like this. That skill supported my family while I attended college at night. We need to keep up skilling our community. Thank you to Walmart and the Indy Chamber for investing in Indiana’s workforce and our economic future.

Two weeks ago I escalated an abandoned house on Washington Street to the City. Neighbors had been reporting drug activity there long before that. Nothing has moved. The Fire Marshal needs to shut this down. The house next door already caught fire because of similar activity.

The city just introduced a record $1.9 billion budget. It makes this year's $50 million state road match from income tax, stormwater, and fiscals. Not one dollar from the wheel tax. The tax you were told we needed? We didn't. 👇

The city's own numbers: property tax revenue up about $47M and income tax up about $41M year over year. That growth is exactly what my road plan is built on.

This summer the Council raised the wheel tax to meet the state's road-funding match. The Mayor vetoed it. Now its back for an override. I think we can meet it without raising your taxes at all. So I put a plan on the record. 🧵

The state matches local road dollars, our share climbing from $50M toward $100M a year. The catch: the match has to be "new revenue." Here is the key. New revenue does not mean a new tax. It means dollars we already collect that have never gone to roads.

My plan funds our share mostly from the growth our income tax already produces every year, plus budget discipline. No rate increase. Full briefing, every number and its source: michaelpaulhart.com/policy/r…

Big week at the City-County Council. Two public safety and accountability proposals failed. The wheel tax passed, but a veto fight may be next. Indianapolis is also considering new data center zoning rules, stronger public review, and a possible moratorium.
