Kathy Hochul is now, on paper, the worst governor in America. All 50 were graded. She came in 50th.
Not by Republicans. The Cato Institute, a libertarian think tank, scored every sitting governor this year for the first time, on taxes, spending, housing, licensing, schools, guns and speech. Hochul got an F: 18 out of 100. Her state, New York, ranked 49th of 50.
Greg Gianforte of Montana came first. Second was a Democrat, Jared Polis of Colorado. So the scorecard isn't the party. It's her.
Friday a union that endorsed her in 2022 put an ad on the air calling her "radioactive." Early voting opened Saturday. Bruce Blakeman, Trump's pick, "MAGA all the way," is on the ballot against her November 3.

Melania Trump's ceasefire took effect at 3 AM Kyiv time Tuesday. Two days early.
Oleshky is a town across the Dnipro River from Kherson that Russia took on the first day of the 2022 invasion. 24,000 people before the war. About 2,000 left, mostly elderly, around 50 children, short of food and medicine for months. On Friday the White House said the First Lady had both sides agreeing to stop shooting there on October 29.
The guns went quiet Tuesday instead. Her statement: "accelerated two days ahead of schedule to protect the safety of civilians." The zone grew too, beyond the town and into the Kherson region, so the aid convoys have a road in.
Both sides say it is holding. Dmytro Lubinets, Ukraine's human rights ombudsman and its chief negotiator, at 5:30 PM Kyiv: "No violations of the ceasefire have been recorded by either side." Russia's Defense Ministry says its forces stopped firing on the Kherson axis at the same hour.
Demining started at once. Aid goes in October 29. Anyone who wants out can leave from October 30. It holds through November 1.
Ukraine asked for weeks. Pope Leo called Putin and asked on October 16. The First Lady is the one who came back with a date, and then with an earlier one. For the 2,000 people still in that town, two days early is the whole point. 💎
