I like this theory as maybe it was Caine's way to keep them from going insane as he figured if they knew about their real lives (as in their names) they wouldn't be able to handle the truth as it explains his line of "no more secrets, no more mind games."

The only thing I don't understand about Caine is why he hid their names. Low and behold it's one of the few plot points in Caine's desicions that isn't fully explored. Did he just not understand they were the same people?

Like a part of me thinks it's because he wanted to hide who they really were but then that defeats the purpose of Caine's growth in episode 9 about finally learning about who the humans were.
