My wonderful mother, Kathleen Hudson (nee Power) has died peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family. Not only was she the matriarch of the entire family, she was always my personal inspiration, my mentor, my world, my friend I miss her so much💔 rip.ie/death-notice/kathleen… – at South Dublin, Ireland

Desk push-ups and chair stands sound too easy to matter. A 60-person trial proved otherwise. - Prolonged sitting weakens your quads, glutes, and calves while creating a vicious cycle: weaker legs make standing harder, so you sit even more. In a 60-person trial of sedentary adults, just 3 sets of 5 or 10 chair sit-to-stands, 3 days a week for 8 weeks, improved muscle quality 40–45% and relative power 29–38%. (Lizama-Pérez et al., PeerJ 2023) No gym, no equipment. Here's the line-up: 1. Chair sit-to-stands — Stand from your chair without using your hands, then lower slowly. Great for quads and glutes. 2. Standing calf raises — Rise onto your toes, pause, and lower slowly. Use the desk for balance if needed. 3. Desk push-ups — Hands on a sturdy desk, body straight, lower your chest toward the edge and press back up. 4. Standing hip abductions — Hold the desk and move one straight leg out to the side. Targets the gluteus medius and challenges balance. 5. Seated knee extensions — Straighten one leg, squeeze the quadriceps briefly, then lower with control. Add an ankle weight or resistance band when body weight becomes too easy. For breaking up prolonged sitting, sit-to-stands may give you the most bang for your buck: one movement gets you out of the chair while training some of the largest muscles in the body. Start with 5–8 slow sit-to-stands every hour today. Which of these five will you actually do this week? #DeskExercises

The older you get, the more you appreciate the things that don't need to be complicated. A body that lets you move. People you can be yourself around. Sleep that leaves you refreshed. A mind that feels at ease. Some of life's best investments are remarkably ordinary.

If you intend to live longer, you need to live stronger. Resistance training, exercising with light weights or resistance bands, or using your own body weight to exercise for even 15-20 minutes a couple of times a week will help keep you stronger as you get older.
Train for the life you want to keep living. Strength matters when you're lifting weights, but it also matters when you're climbing stairs, carrying groceries, and getting up off the floor with confidence.

No pill builds 27% more mitochondria. Movement DOES. 2024 meta of 5,973 people showed these gains: • HIIT & sprints: ~27% more • Steady cardio: ~23% more • Biggest gains if you’re starting unfit • Even 2 weeks starts the rise Your cells manufacture more power plants when you move. Action Plan: 1. Do 2–3 HIIT or sprint sessions per week (e.g., 4–8 rounds of 20–30s hard effort, full recovery). 2. Add 2–3 steady walks or easy cardio sessions or walk 10-15 minutes after meals. 3. Aim for 3-4 movement days weekly. 4. Keep it consistent for at least 2 weeks to see the signal build. What’s one session you’ll do this week? What do you think about HIIT and sprint training? Love it or hate it? #Mitochondria Source: Mølmen et al. Sports Med (2024). Systematic review & meta-regression, n=5,973. Exercise training ↑ mitochondrial content ~23–27%.
