A Citibank vice president and former U.S. Marine STOPPED AN ACTIVE SHOOTER at a Florida corporate campus packed with more than 3,200 employees, confronting the g*nman and sh*oting him FIVE TIMES before he could claim more lives. John Fraley, 38, is being hailed as a hero after his quick actions ended a de*dly attack Wednesday afternoon at the Citibank Center near Tampa, Florida, where a g*nman armed with approximately 90 rounds of ammunition had already k*lled an innocent employee. Fraley isn't a typical security guard. He's a Citibank Vice President and Intelligence Lead Analyst who also serves on the company's trained armed security team, bringing his military background and security experience to a confrontation that unfolded in barely a minute. According to Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister, the attack began after 35-year-old Jacob Pearson of Orlando became enraged over a court summons involving approximately $2,500 in debt. Earlier that morning, Pearson allegedly threatened to arrive at Citibank's offices carrying a rifle and body armor unless the legal proceedings against him were canceled. Citibank security alerted law enforcement, and deputies were already responding when Pearson arrived at the company's Brandon-area campus around 12:10 p.m. The suspect crashed his vehicle through a security gate and into an outdoor courtyard where employees were eating lunch. There, he opened fire on 41-year-old Leanne Selman, a Citibank employee who had worked for the company for nine years. Pearson sh*t Selman three times with a rifle before the weapon malfunctioned. As the wounded woman desperately tried to crawl away, he returned to his vehicle, retrieved a handgun, and sh*t her again. Selman d*ed at the scene. The gunman then moved toward the building's cafeteria, where employees were scrambling to escape or find somewhere to hide. Fraley, who was not performing a routine security patrol at the time, responded to the unfolding attack and positioned himself to confront Pearson. When the suspect entered the cafeteria, Fraley engaged him in a g*nfight and struck him five times, ending the threat within approximately one minute of the initial shots being fired. Pearson was transported to Tampa General Hospital, where he was pronounced d*ad at 1:12 p.m. Sheriff's deputies had reached the campus as the sho*ting began, with the first responding units moving directly toward the gunfire. Ultimately, 367 Hillsborough County deputies responded, supported by additional law enforcement agencies, SWAT personnel, aviation units, drones, and K9 teams. Four other people were treated for non-life-threatening injuries and have since been released from the hospital. Investigators said Pearson had no prior criminal record, and authorities found no evidence that Selman had any personal connection to him. Sheriff Chronister praised Fraley's actions, describing him as a hero who confronted an armed attacker while thousands of employees were potentially in danger. "John Fraley confronted this suspect and is a hero, plain and simple," Chronister said. He added that Fraley's courage and the security team's preparation undoubtedly saved lives, particularly given the amount of ammunition Pearson had brought to the campus. The sheriff also mourned Selman, who served as a Learning Advisor for Citi Security and Investigative Services, emphasizing that she had simply gone to work that morning and never returned home.
