This is obviously rage bait, but I’ll give my two cents nobody asked for If you ask a woman out on a date as a man, I think you should be prepared to cover the bill and be perfectly comfortable doing so Now.. if the date goes horribly wrong for whatever reason, splitting the bill and going your separate ways is perfectly reasonable. Though realistically.. that isn’t usually how things play out Everything in life is about balance and a good relationship is no different. A woman who genuinely cares about you won’t have an issue contributing financially or making an effort in other ways as the relationship progresses I’ve been on plenty of dates where I covered the entire bill and others where the woman offered to split it. Some of those dates went somewhere, others didn’t and that’s completely fine I just don’t think you’re making the greatest first impression as a man if you’re already arguing over splitting the bill on your first date. The entire point is to figure out whether you’re compatible, not to establish some perfectly calculated financial arrangement before you’ve even gotten to know each other I pay for most things when my girlfriend and I go out and I’m perfectly happy doing that because she treats me incredibly well and makes me happy. That’s a win in my books She’ll surprise me with gifts, do thoughtful things for me and make an effort without ever being asked. None of it feels transactional because neither of us is keeping score And that’s really my point. A healthy relationship isn’t necessarily about splitting everything equally.. it’s about both people feeling equally valued If you’re constantly arguing about who pays for what, chances are there’s a bigger conversation to be had about expectations and what each person considers fair There’s nothing inherently wrong with splitting everything 50/50, just as there’s nothing wrong with one person covering the majority of expenses. Different arrangements work for different people What matters is finding someone whose expectations align with yours, rather than trying to impose your own definition of fairness on everyone else Life is too short to turn every relationship into a scoreboard If you’re both happy and putting in the effort.. the rest should be secondary That’s how I see it and I can understand why others might see it differently
