BREAKING: 🚨 September PPI inflation unexpectedly rose to 6.3%, above expectations of 5.3%. Core PPI inflation rose to 5.0%, above expectations of 4.4%. The Producer Price Index for final demand jumped +1.3% in September, the largest monthly advance since March 2022. Prices for final demand goods surged +2.6%, the biggest increase since data began in 2009, with over 80% of the gain driven by energy prices which rose +10.8%. Final demand services rose +0.8%. On an unadjusted basis, PPI climbed 6.3% over the past 12 months, the largest annual increase since December 2022. This follows yesterday’s hotter-than-expected CPI print of 3.7%. Producer inflation is reaccelerating sharply as rate-hike odds climb.
