In 2021 I was working in Turkey, I was going through a rough time mentally. Nothing made sense anymore, I felt alone and lost. I felt numbness to things that should have made me feel happy or excited. Then one day there was a kitten in front of my apartment, maybe 2 weeks old. I decided to put some food outside and go back up. When I looked out of my window I saw it getting attacked by two big cats. I went down again and immediately saw that its leg was broken. I took the cat on my balcony and fed it so it could eat in peace. Obviously at this point I had to name it, so I chose the name Pablo. After eating and immediately falling asleep, Pablo was obviously in pain so the next morning we went to the vet. After the checkup the vet told me Pablo had a broken leg and internal bleedings. Pablo had no chance of making it without surgery. Then they asked me if I wanted to pay for it, otherwise they couldn’t perform the surgery and Pablo would die. Also, they told me that Pablo was a girl lol. Of course I paid for the surgery and the stay at the vet with the thought of finding her a nice family to stay with when she was healthy again. The surgery and the stay at the vet was around $1000 20 days later the vet called me to tell me I could pick her up and take her home. I made sure I had a litter box, food and toys for her at the apartment. The plan was for her to stay with me until I found her a good family. Not even 24 hours later the plan changed, I immediately got attached to her and shortly after we were inseparable. Fast forward 5 years later, I still work abroad. She comes with me everywhere ( yes she has flown more business class than a IG model ) and yes HER name is still Pablo. I saved her and changed her life and I can feel she’s thankful for that but she has no idea she saved mine too. Since then I’ve helped 24 cats with surgeries and placing them with families all in the hope they experience the same thing I am experiencing. The plan is to eventually open a cat rescue sanctuary where they don’t necessarily have to get adopted but can stay and live comfortably and safe. If you are struggling mentally go get yourself a furry friend.
