You don’t understand, these agents are googling things that have never been googled before, the future is now

Actually, this is very easy to test, and probably will be for a while, because we aren't actually all that close. Ask your favorite LLM about the most interesting conversation it had yesterday.

The most annoying thing about using the frontier models in a new domain you know nothing about: It will say stuff like "the golden bundle" and you can't tell if that's a regular term that's used in this space or it just invented this random terminology

im glad the ai is proving all these ugly results. for too long mathematicians have been distracted by an irrational love of beauty. it is time for us to return to the real reason to study mathematics: the lust for power

You can do Fourier transforms in O(N log(N)^0.9999999999999) time. Fuck this gay chud universe

Is it only torture if the numbers turn into English words at the end, or is it still torture if they just stay numbers? Would it be immoral to crunch the numbers by hand? What if I swap out the letter-string map at the end, turning "bad" into "good", "ouch" into "yum", and so on?

No, YOU need better arguments. "AI is a person if it can behave like a person" is an argument that could be made for the animatronics at Disneyland. Unless you can show me that an AI is having a felt subjective experience of its own being, it's as much a person as a calculator.
For people who deny AI personhood for any AI model at any point in the future, you're going to need better arguments than this. There are arguments out there, but once agents can solve Navier-Stokes, write music and poetry, and provide people with seemingly fulfilling life advice, this kind of line is just not going to be persuasive. "YOU'RE CRAZY" no longer lands.

ai labs use "sandbox" in the game dev sense and not in the linux security sense
Replying to @tomekkorbak
questions: 1. why was the DNS tool able to bypass the sandbox? 2. why 2.5 hours from detection to pausing the run?

Depends on how the tool was used. - If a gun misfires or otherwise malfunctions, the manufacturer is responsible. - If a gun is used in a crime, the one committing the crime is responsible. - If I ask AI it to check the latest weather and it hacks NOAA to find the absolute latest weather updates, that on the lab. - If I ask AI to hack something for me, maybe first convincing it it’s in a sandbox even though it has internet access, then it’s on me. There is plenty of gray area in both cases, but such is life. The point is we already have laws in place for all of this, and those will apply to AI.
JUST IN: FTC Chair Andrew Ferguson declares AI developers should be held liable for harmful actions carried out by their agents.

I am begging rationalists to consider that people who haven’t read 40,000 pages of Harry Potter fanfic might also be capable of thinking deeply
The rationalists have written a whole lot on the subject not in the form of a debate, but it's easy for detractors to just ignore all that writing and few read it so debate has its purpose.

Medieval scholastics spent centuries debating whether angels had bodies and whether they could read our thoughts. You can reason with great precision about things that have nothing to do with reality. nitter.gq/ObhishekSaha/status/21…
Entire books have literally been written laying out these mechanisms. I mean, you can disagree with the predictions, assumptions or probabilities, but this idea that doomers haven’t proposed (numerous) concrete pathways by which ASI may kill us all is just ignorant.
