The OBR estimates that Brexit will leave the UK’s long-term productivity 4% lower than if we had remained in the EU. At today’s economic scale, that represents roughly £120bn in lost output each year once the effect is fully felt. Cooper is describing a 30-page plan on infrastructure, start-ups and defence, with a closer economic partnership with Europe as its biggest growth lever. Bruce can challenge that argument, but dismissing it as “that’s about it” brushes aside one of the biggest economic choices facing the country.
