Hard to believe it’s been a decade. The world still feels smaller. We die three times. When life leaves our body. When our body is committed to the earth. When our name is spoken for the last time. Hermano, you will live as long as there is breath in our lungs. Until we meet again…

Happy Pub Day to my friend @bentleydonb . I’ve been a fan of both Don and Vince from the beginning, and I can honestly say Vince would be humbled where Don has taken the Mitch Rapp saga. Love what Don’s done thus far and can’t wait to dig into DOUBLE TAP! Grab your copy today!

I remember it like it was yesterday. Where I was, what I was doing, what I wore to work that day. The moment I heard what was happening. The stunned realization that rocked me like a toddler in heavy surf. In a way, every day since has been 12 Sep 2001. It was more than a simple slogan, but a call to purpose. 25 years ago, I had just transitioned from the Army to begin my career as a CIA Officer and that moment would define the next two decades. 25 years. A quarter of a century. Hard to fathom. A staggering tragedy that many will never understand as they had yet to be born. I get that. I could never fully understand the impact of Pearl Harbor, not in the same way my parents and my grandparents experienced it. Don’t misunderstand me – it was horrific and ripped the scales from our eyes. What we lost that day and in the years that followed is a butcher’s bill written in crimson and pain. Personally, I have lost far too many friends that I loved. The world is smaller for their absence. Yet I also believe in finding the good in things, the beauty in the aftermath. In the decades that followed, I became a father. I forged friendships with men and women who are now like brothers and sisters. There’s a short list of beautiful things that guided me to be the man I am today and I am grateful for all of it. But there are things I miss. Things I ache for. At the top of that list is who we were on 12 Sep 2001.

I admit I am biased. My son is a West Point Rugger and I am a retired soldier. But even if that was not the case, I would tell you this is a tremendous film. I was lucky enough to see it at its premier last November at USMA and it is simply remarkable. Heartwarming in a way that is difficult to put into words. On a deep and personal level, it reassures me that our Nation, our Army and our future is in more than capable hands. This is a snapshot of our future. One that will fill you with hope. BROTHERS ON THREE is currently available via Apple TV and Fandango at Home. Tomorrow (11 Sep 2026) it will be released more broadly across other streaming services. I can not recommend it enough.

Happy (Belated) Pub Day to my good friend, @JackStewartBook! ((My copy finally arrived this afternoon)) Jack is a deep talent, and I’m thrilled to see what he does with characters that have come to be like family. Taking on the mantel of the Clancy-verse is no small thing, but I know the Ryan family is in good hands. This is what I’ll be reading this weekend. How about you?

Just finished reading DESERT HEIST by @AlxDekker this past weekend. Honestly, it’s exceptional on multiple levels. At its core, it’s an adventure novel, well researched and plausible. Still, there’s so much more to it. White knuckled action and skullduggery, with certain nuances only a former special forces soldier would include. More than once I found myself thinking of similar situations I experienced as a CIA officer. Beyond the plot, it’s the characters that will hold on to you, Nate Wilde and his band of brothers. Loved it and can’t wait to see what Alex Dekker writes next. Summer is almost over and this is the beach read you might not have thought of. You still have time to fix that. Grab a copy of DESERT HEIST today!

Happy Pub Day to @danielsilvabook! Every year for the last 26 years, throughout my CIA career, I have awaited the latest installment in the Gabriel Allon series. Always a treat. Silva's research is unmatched and his prose divine. Now I know what I'm doing this weekend.

This feels like a CRISPR moment. Not because the spelling matters, but because the pattern does: we tell ourselves a line is too clear, too unethical, too obviously dangerous to cross—and then someone crosses it anyway. At first, there is outrage. Then the news cycle moves on. And slowly, what once felt unthinkable begins to feel inevitable. Maybe this latest step is not as momentous as gene editing a child before birth. But it still feels like movement in the wrong direction. As a writer working toward publication, I find it deeply unsettling. I can only imagine the chill felt by actors, artists, and other creators watching another boundary shift beneath their feet. The phrase “no one would ever do that” has a way of aging badly. And once a line is crossed, the harder question becomes: how do we keep it from becoming normal? latimes.com/entertainment-ar…

This evening while shopping for groceries, I ran into an Afghan family doing the same. The male in the family was probably in his late 20s or early 30s and looked like he could have been the brother of a good friend. A man I deeply admire. We chatted briefly. They are doing well. After 20 years of conflict and all that was sacrificed, and how things played out in the end - I can’t begin to tell you how happy that made me. It genuinely made my heart happy and full. Tonight I will sleep well. Have a great weekend.
