Our office works relentlessly to defend DC residents from exploitation, fraud, and deceptive practices. Thank you @consumeraction for recognizing our efforts and for being a partner in the fight to protect consumers for 55 years!

The massive turnout at the @DCSCORES gala is a testament to the profound impact it has on our schools and communities. For over three decades, DC SCORES' programs and volunteers have instilled joy, self-expression, and a sense of belonging in students across our city. Here’s to continuing to support this amazing organization that does so much for our young people in DC!

Either way, it's illegal. Residents can report violations of DC's Wage Transparency Act to our office by contacting [email protected] or 202-724-7730.
DC law requires salary ranges in job postings, yet I see a significant minority of postings that leave it out. Do we think it’s simple ignorance? Intentional? Either way, it’s pretty frustrating.

NEW: Today, we released recommendations to simplify and modernize DC's Comprehensive Plan for land use. DC 2050 is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to shape our city. We lay out ways the Plan can make building in DC easier, faster, and more transparent — even before upzoning.

5️⃣Use Wards as the geographic basis The current Plan divides DC into 10 planning areas, such as Mid-City or Upper Northeast. But Wards are more familiar and a source of identity for DC residents. Wards are also the basis for other DC plans and policies. Let's use them instead.

These changes will make the Comprehensive Plan more intuitive and accessible to DC residents. Combined with future zoning changes enabled by DC 2050, they will also make it easier to build in DC. Dive in: Summary📙: oag.dc.gov/DC2050Summary White Paper📘: oag.dc.gov/DC2050WhitePaper

WAGE THEFT ENFORCEMENT: We are suing a DC child care center for stiffing workers nearly $15,000 in pay. Little Samaritan permanently closed without any notice to employees or parents. Six workers never got their final paychecks. We are fighting to recover the wages they earned.

When issues like this are referred to our office, they're often resolved without legal action. But if a DC employer continues to refuse to pay back the wages workers are owed, we will not hesitate to go to court and fight to make the workers whole. More: oag.dc.gov/release/attorney-…

DC passed a law to fast-track evictions for tenants who commit a violent or dangerous crime in their building. Now, that law is being challenged in a case where a tenant pled guilty to attempted assault with a dangerous weapon — after assaulting a leasing office employee in their building while armed with a knife. We are fighting in court to defend this common-sense provision. Incidents like this are rare, but they require prompt action to keep tenants, building staff, and nearby neighbors safe. This is also critical for ensuring that DC can continue to create and preserve the affordable housing our residents need.
The @DCAttorneyGen wrote an excellent brief defending the RENTAL Act and the need to protect building residents and staff from people who commit violence. Today’s Capital Commonsense: capitalcommonsense.com/p/do-…

Today, we returned to the US Court of Appeals for the DC Circuit to argue against the illegal National Guard deployment in DC. We are staying in this fight because the US military should not be policing American citizens anywhere in America — and that includes DC. The continued presence of thousands of armed National Guard troops in the District infringes on our fundamental rights and our local autonomy. It also sets an incredibly dangerous precedent for our country that we cannot afford to leave unchallenged. It is long past time for this illegal deployment to end.
