UPDATE: An Amtrak construction crew accidentally cut into a fiber line in New Jersey which caused a telecom outage and forced FAA to pause flights in the Northeast.
Right now:
- Flights are resuming at LGA and PHL
- Flights into EWR, JFK, and Teterboro Airport are paused
This incident underscores the need for additional funding to modernize aging infrastructure and prevent disruptions like this in the future.
Follow @FAANews for updates.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Amtrak stated the cut was by a New Jersey Transit contractor on NJ Transit property, not an Amtrak crew. businessinsider.com/faa-outage-new… nbcnewyork.com/new-jersey/new…

Congratulations to “DCInbox Classroom: Making Representation Transparent for America250” (presented by Lindsey Cormack, @DCInbox @FollowStevens)! The project was one of three winners of our first-ever Civics Innovator Competition, held at the National Summit on Civic Education! Each winning presentation was chosen by live audience members and received a $10,000 prize.
By utilizing DCInbox Classroom’s database of every official e-newsletter a member of Congress has sent to their constituents since 2009, this project will create curricular resources, adaptable classroom projects, and professional development opportunities for K-12 educators across the county so that teachers can bring the founding ideals of representation, transparency, and consent of the governed into their classroom through timely primary source documents.

Today, I'm announcing that I'm running for the United States Senate.
I'm a fifth-generation Kansan. My family came here 147 years ago and settled in a town called Hope.
I'm running because Kansas — and our country — deserve better than what Washington has been giving us. We need leaders who put service above self, country before party, and people before politics.
I'm an independent-minded Democrat. I’ll lead by listening. And I'll be a champion for Kansas.
