My mother, #CorettaScottKing, said, “It doesn’t matter how strong your opinions are. If you don’t use your power for positive change, you are, indeed, part of the problem.”

We're thrilled @ZacharyforWard5 of DC's Ward 5 City Council will be speaking at #DazzleCon23! Zachary believes that "we need more than competition and individualism to close the structural barriers to generational wealth."

there is a faster-horse problem in AI that seems to be infiltrating the venture capital and startup ecosystem discourses rapidly. it is opportunistic at best and myopic at worst. when it comes to AI, I think we should make fewer declarative statements and ask more questions. I think we should be students, not teachers. when we frame conversations in terms of how existing systems or processes can be "supercharged" or "made more efficient" by AI, we fail to leave room for the imagination – the creative solutions that rearchitect the status quo altogether. we are asking for faster horses versus the car. these are modest transformations. generational AI companies will instead focus on questions like the following: what new and emergent behaviors are unlocked by large-scale models, and how might these behaviors reimagine the design of these systems at large?

“We have to own even the darkest parts of our past, understand them, and vow never to repeat them...We must not shrink away, lest we lose it all.” — U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, at a speech commemorating 60 years since the 16th Street Baptist Church bombing

"The very serious function of racism is distraction. It keeps you from doing your work. It keeps you explaining, over and over again, your reason for being" - Toni Morrison There's so much truth in this. All we can do is keep focus on the mission. keep pushing forward.

The thing about DEI trainings is that it taught a lot of folks the vocabulary of social justice without any understanding of the substance.
