Sarah Strong didn’t flinch after UConn’s loss to Michigan
“We just didn’t play UConn basketball at all… We just have to get it together.”
No excuses. No spinning it.
That’s what a STANDARD sounds like
Is this a one-night wake-up call?

Bill Belichick defines what a good teammate really is and it applies to football, business, and life.
"A good teammate is somebody that you can trust and count on every day. Somebody who's tough, smart, and dependable."
You want teammates that you can trust.
You want teammates that are consistent.
"There are gonna be ups and downs. Mental toughness is part of dealing with things when they aren't perfect which they're not always gonna be."
"You always want people to make smart decisions. Not saying the smartest player has to be a great football player, but you have to make smart decisions for the team."
"And you have to be dependable. That means being consistent."
Then he explained what separates good from great:"
"The good ones are the ones that can do it over a consistent timeframe. Dependable day in and day out, week in and week out."
"That's really what successful people in life do."
Anyone can have a moment. The great ones show up every day.
They master their habits and they look to be consistent in their actions, attitude, and approach. Belichick's formula is:
1. Tough.
2. Smart.
3. Dependable.

Pressure doesn't expose your talent. It exposes your habits.
When the moment gets big, you don't suddenly become more disciplined, focused, or prepared.
You become exactly what you've practiced being.
You can't train occasionally and expect to deliver consistently.

"The standard creates the culture." @ChristianYelich
When coaches enforce it, it's a rule.
When players own it, it's a standard.
When everyone lives it, it's a culture.
Culture isn't built by what you preach.
It's built by what you practice.

I'm convinced @DukeWBB Coach Kara Lawson is one of the best leaders in sports. This clip on urgency, growth not being linear, and the idea that there is no finish line is superb:
🥱 Need It > Want It. The people who win aren’t always the most gifted, they’re the ones who refuse to look away from what’s required RIGHT NOW. They stay present with the hard, the boring, and the uncomfortable, and they attack anyway. Wanting shows up when it’s convenient; needing shows up when it costs you something.
📈📉 Growth isn’t a straight line. There will be peaks that tempt your ego and valleys that test your belief. Real leadership is keeping your urgency and sharpness intact through all of it. Trusting that consistency is what will carry you through. Don't let your own impatience with stagnancy take your spirit.
🏁 There is no finish line where you finally get to coast, only new levels that ask more of you. Better is a direction, not a destination. The “ceiling” you feel is often just an imaginary story you’ve told yourself about what’s possible. Growth asks for the endurance to keep going and the humility to treat every day, every season, every year as another chance to get better.
Bring urgency to the way you show up every day. Don't ever give up on your own growth. 🌱

When it’s all over, you don’t miss the game.
You miss how it made you feel.
You miss the teammates you played with.
You miss what it taught you about yourself and life.
The game ends, but who you became because of it never does.

It just simply increases your probability of being successful.
But I can guarantee you this, those who don't work hard don't get nothing they want."

Success isn’t about what you feel like doing once in a while — it’s about what you demand of yourself every day.
It’s the discipline to do it right, over and over.
That’s how you separate yourself. That’s how you win.
