A touch more R2 preconditioning testing today then I’ll stop beating this dead horse. Today I plugged in to see if charging while warming kept the battery temps from falling, and it did (well, it dropped maybe 1 degree near the end).
Confirmed “HI” heat is the only way to really warm the cabin, even 84 setting stalls out in the 60s. I expect this will be tweaked soon. Note the energy usage, only 2/3 went into the pack while running climate during this period of less than 30 minutes.
I hope scheduled departure will come and allow us to actually warm the battery and get a warm cabin for winter!
Last year we had great horned owlets born nearby, then they ventured out and we didn’t see them again. I was excited to wake up to two owls chattering back and forth today. Volume up
We love stability and performance updates! The flashy new features are cool but the core functionality being smooth and reliable is really important to the perception of quality.
Rivian’s 2026.36.01 (R1) and 2026.36.42 (R2) have been spotted, with improvements to infotainment stability, responsiveness, and performance.

Inspired by @DomDoesMedia and his recent tire rotation, I checked the tread at 6000 miles on my BFGoodrich all terrains and they’re still at 9/32nds!
This was really just an excuse for me to ramble for 20 plus minutes but you do get to see how quickly and efficiently preconditioning brings the battery from 45 to 90 degrees.

A couple weeks ago I wrote about sunglasses breaking Rivian Hands-Free. James Philbin from Rivian filled in the missing piece: 2026.36 now checks whether the camera can see your eyes, and some lenses block the infrared light it needs.

I have to tease this because it is really cool. @RivianRoamer MCP is going to be so nice for combing through data and finding trends/outcomes quickly. Can’t wait for everyone to get access.
