A year ago, my body finally made me stop. What I thought was a bad shoulder became seven weeks of pain, closed blinds, an apartment that felt like a prison, and eventually a Stage 4 prostate cancer diagnosis. Latest essay: danielkerrwrites.substack.co…

Healing isn't always a straight road. Sometimes it's a tangled path, half-hidden, with just enough light getting through to keep you moving. That still counts. 💜

🚨🇬🇧 The UK government has responded to the petition regarding folic acid in flour. The UK Government is forcing synthetic folic acid into all non-wholemeal wheat flour from the end of 2026. This affects 70 million people to supposedly prevent just 200 neural tube defect cases a year. It’s not just bread it means almost every everyday product made with white or brown flour: pasta, pizza bases, cakes, biscuits, pastries, pies, crackers, and most processed baked goods. Men and children get zero benefit, yet studies have linked higher folic acid intake to increased prostate cancer risk in men. They’re choosing mass medication of the entire population through our staple foods instead of targeted supplements for women who actually need it. This is being forced on us without real choice. It will appear in the ingredients list, but there’ll be no clear warning on the front of the pack. Natural folate from food is one thing this unnatural synthetic chemical is another. Sign the petition in the comments we need to at least have a debate on this. Please share with as many people as possible.

Some photographs aren't really about the place. They're about the version of you that stood there. Years pass, life changes, but one picture can bring it all back in an instant.

The sea doesn't apologise for being rough. Neither should you for having difficult days. Keep going. The tide always changes. 💜

You don't have to feel brave every day. You just have to keep turning up for the life that's still waiting for you. ❤️

I nearly didn't publish one particular essay. Not because I was worried about the writing, but because I had to revisit one of the hardest parts of cancer treatment. 🧵

Post 2 I called it The Darkness. It wasn't ordinary sadness. It was a period where everything felt heavier. The world lost its colour. I knew it would pass, but while I was in it, I couldn't imagine feeling like myself again.

Post 3 The response has reminded me how many people have experienced something similar but never had the words for it. If you're carrying your own darkness today, I hope this helps you feel a little less alone. 💚 open.substack.com/pub/daniel…

Life has a funny way of changing your priorities. Things that once felt urgent become unimportant. Things you barely noticed become priceless. Sometimes it takes losing your certainty to appreciate what you already have.

I've noticed something. The days I stop trying to control everything are usually the days I feel most at peace. Not because life suddenly becomes predictable. Because I stop asking it to be.

Hi @Substack, I have an account issue that was escalated by the support chatbot 4 days ago, but I never received a ticket number or update. Could someone point me in the right direction? Thanks.

I've spent a lot of time waiting for life to begin. After this project. After that job. After that appointment. After that problem is solved. The older I get, the more I realise: This is it. This is life.

One thing cancer taught me: Most people aren't afraid of the treatment. They're afraid of the uncertainty. The waiting. The not knowing. The what-ifs. The appointment takes an hour. The waiting takes everything else.

One of the biggest misconceptions about surviving cancer is that the difficult part ends when the treatment does. Sometimes that's when you finally have time to process what happened. The body recovers first. The mind often takes a little longer.
