I've come to believe that it's a lack of self-reflection, not being conniving or manipulative, that makes someone a bad person. Everyone engages in occasional behavior that is harmful. A "good person" takes that feedback to heart, takes responsibility for their actions, and tries to do better next time. A "bad person" pushes the thought away and refuses to reflect on their behavior. Over time, doing that repeatedly - refusing to be morally accountable - is what makes someone a bad person. It doesn't mean they don't have the capacity for redemption, but it's impossible to collaborate with people who refuse to learn from iterated moral games.

I'm fluent in DHHese. Let me translate: "the benchmark I posted was completely fucked up. I tried arguing it's measuring agent performance instead of language performance but these duckers found out I spent more time on the rust version. stop calling me out on it. how about some free labour to fix the shittiest benchmark on earth? but also realise you are still wrong and I'm right, although it's hard to say what I'm right about exactly - I've run out of lies and misdirections a while ago"

I didn't do anything. I asked two frontier agents to make the most of Elixir and this is what they came up with. Please do send a PR to speed things up! But also realize that it's not exactly extra points for Elixir if frontier agents can't find the magic "go fast" switches.

So... it turns out that benchmark is not apples to apples @dhh Rust's first port from Ruby: 4.4× Rails. Elixir's: 3.3×. Then Rust got 398 commits and 18 perf PRs. Go was ported from that tuned Rust. Elixir got one small tuning pass. The rest got none of that love. Fair? 🤔
I've had agents implement and optimize the Campfire web app in Elixir, Go, and Rust. Yes, Ruby is the slowest. I didn't care about that when the pay-off was huge in terms of productivity and developer joy. But if you're no longer reading the code? github.com/basecamp/once-cam…

The shown benchmarks use non-equivalent implementations: Elixir routes all DB queries through a single GenServer with Redis for jobs (retained from Rails), while Rust uses in-process queues, omits CSRF tags/fields, and applies other caching changes. github.com/basecamp/once-… raw.githubusercontent.com/basecamp/once-… github.com/basecamp/once-… github.com/basecamp/once-… x.com/zachsdaniel1/s…

My favorite AI joke: Current models are getting close to PhD-level intelligence. After that, they're expected to achieve the intelligence of someone who decided not to do a PhD.

If anyone else is looking for horses for the AI apocalypse reach out. Our advanced breeding program will get you the best money can buy. Also, we include custom matching tin foil hats for you and your horse – at Ruidoso, NM
After @OpenAI Astra’s release yesterday scoring 99.9% on the ARC-AGI-3 benchmark, I think it’s become clear that AGI is no longer some distant hypothetical. About 15 minutes after the benchmarks came out, I booked the first flight I could find to Jackson Hole. I’ve now decided to relocate here permanently and begin establishing a life with as little exposure to AI as practically possible. I’m currently evaluating houses based primarily on distance from town, whether they have a wood-burning stove, whether the water comes from a well, and how many important systems can still function if the internet disappears forever. I’ve also started transitioning my daily life away from anything that could plausibly become agentic. I paid for coffee with cash this morning. I asked a human being for directions. I bought a paper map. I have begun referring to Google Maps as “the old system.” I’m also looking into purchasing a horse. At this point horses remain one of the only major transportation platforms with no API, no OTA updates, and no realistic path to MCP support. I’ve started moving important documents to paper. I bought a typewriter and I’m learning which vegetables can survive a Wyoming winter. Longer term, I’m hoping to assemble a small community of people with complementary pre-AGI skills: farming, carpentry, dentistry, medicine and cooking. LMK if interested. Whatever happens next, I’ve made my choice. I’ll be in Wyoming splitting firewood and waiting for the compute to run out.

All I'm asking is for tech people who say they believe crazy shit to actually act crazy Like I'm excited about technology. I don't think the singularity has begun. But if i did, I sure as shit wouldn't spend my final days creating shareholder value. I sure as shit wouldn't expect anything in my stock portfolio to hold any value at all after the techno-rapture Shut the fuck up about the singularity unless you are going to actually live like you mean it
Stripe sent a letter to investors this morning saying they believe The Singularity has begun, and that we passed the threshold on January 1st 2026.

All the focus on Fauci is burying the more important story, which is that scientists enforcing a common narrative to the detriment of truth has become extremely common. It's a strong case of in-group behavior in academia that, I believe, most of them are not fully aware of. As @LocasaleLab put it so aptly "the academic system punishes honesty". And this is the real story: This isn't just about Fauci. Fauci is just an extreme and very visible example in a case that has attracted a lot of public attention. But misleading the public about the status of scientific research has become extremely widespread.

Docs released by Rand Paul provide the best insight yet into CIA intel about the Wuhan lab. I reported last year that CIA had collected SIGINT from China. Fauci's diary provides more details about it: The CIA learned that the Wuhan lab was experimenting with pangolin coronaviruses and never disclosed it. Recall in early 2020 we thought COVID came from pangolins because COVID-related viruses were found in 2019 in Guangdong pangolins. Fauci's response to this intel was defensive. He called the CIA analyst an amateur. He said the National Security Council should talk to his favorite virologist Kristian Andersen. Andersen, hearing the same rumor, privately said the WIV experimenting with pangolin coronaviruses would be hugely significant.

Open weights, open chip export, open use of proprietary models, open collaboration between companies, open collaboration between superpowers. This is how America leads, how America wins, and how the whole world wins together. Welcome to X Jensen!
For my first post, I’m sharing a letter @NVIDIA signed on why open models matter. AI will transform every industry, power every company, and be built by every country. Open models strengthen safety and cybersecurity, accelerate innovation and diffusion, and enable sovereignty. The world needs both frontier closed models and frontier open models. images.nvidia.com/pdf/Open-W…

Anthropic should be embarrassed, 65-85k for masters-level techs in the Bay Area is utterly shameful. Sure you can do it--sadly the market supports it--but it says a lot about a company when they do so, esp a trillion dollar co that positions itself as 'morally righteous'
We are hiring scientists to come work with our team at Anthropic! Feel free to mention me specifically when you apply so we make sure it's routed correctly. Links to job posts below in 🧵:
