This morning, security personnel @Makerere are undergoing training to strengthen the protection of students, staff, visitors & University property.
The session focuses on promoting professionalism, discipline & effective responses to safeguarding concerns.
Ms. Angella Atwongyeirwe from @joinhopespeaks charged us to be patient and allow people time to build communication confidence and express their mental health concerns. Give them eye contact, minimise distractions and use inclusive language.
How can we support each other in case of mental health challenges?
Notice the signs of change, reach out via a private moment, listen without judging or rushing to fix. You do not have all the answers! Connect them to a counsellor and follow up with them said @Donovan_Co_
Approximately 25% of the population in Uganda is experiencing a mental health situation. The numbers could even be higher. Do not be part of the statistics! Speak up, seek help, break the stigma, said Ms. Nzinga Donovan.
October being the Mental Health Month, the Dean of Students convened students with disabilities for a mental health session. This is part of the ongoing efforts to ensure a safe and inclusive university for all. Many thanks to @joinhopespeaks for the partnership.

The Counseling and Guidance Centre led by Mr Henry Nsubuga held an engagement with support from @MCFMakerere themed "Mental Health Hygiene".
The engagement was officially opened by Deputy Vice Chancellor (Finance & Administration) represented by @EdBbaale.
Prof. @EdBbaale noted that mental health is one of the neglected areas of health. He said that in this dynamic environment, whether student or staff, we need the support of Counseling and Guidance Directorate.
Prof. @EdBbaale said that if you suffer a mental or psychological breakdown, then you can not deliver on the university's strategic direction.
Mr Henry Nsubuga noted that we must be in our best state of mind to serve.
'We can not give what we do not have', Mr Nsubuga said.
