I have just published a piece that is very important to me. It's about why so many "progressives" and people on "the left" are lying to us right now about crime, safety, and repression, and what we should be doing instead. equalityalec.substack.com/p/…

I wrote this about the student protests in Serbia at the beginning of last year, for @NewLeftReview Sidecar. Re-sharing because a few people have asked about the background and because it's my favorite thing I wrote about the protests newleftreview.org/sidecar/po…

Lula: "Eu aprendi, nesse 2º turno, a grande lição da minha vida: quando o governante não sabe o que fazer, ele pergunte ao seu povo que o povo saberá"
Lula will be hamstrung by a most right-wing congress. And the yawning gulf between the official left and significant parts of the working class is likely to grow unless new collective forms are developed, new solidarities practiced.

I was happy to lend some posts and argumentative verve to the World 2 Win slate, and I would be honored to be a faithful delegate, but Tiff and Madi rock if you’re looking for someone else to elect in Flatbush.
Today is the last day for voting on NYC DSA convention delegates. Send Amazon organizers, tenant unionists and rank-and-file militants to convention this year by voting Communist, along with our friends in World To Win and Bread & Roses.

"The union’s greatest strength is in a mobilized rank and file that defends social justice and union democracy. And we need this power to defeat the juggernaut that threatens all we value. . . .Education workers can create the unions we need to win against the Right."
This DC teachers' write-up about leveraging grievances for collective action "illuminates the converges of what are often cast as incompatible goals: defending the public good, winning members' rights as workers, and democratizing our unions."

A must-read investigation into a big fight in NYC around public housing. It is a working-class struggle that socialists ought to try and understand; doing so will require relaxing some of the usual factional battle lines that define the movement during internal election season.
A tenacious group of tenants is fighting a teardown plan in one of Manhattan's most desirable neighborhoods that could spell the end of public housing as we know it? I wrote for @newrepublic about their struggle and the fate of government-run homes in the US.

Across the country, recent conversions of public housing have led to too many bad renovations and failed relocations to ignore. In NYC, independent analysis finds that private management has increased eviction rates and created poor living conditions for many tenants.

Anti-demolition tenants describe a process by NYCHA and partners riddled with deceptions, disregard for their input, and hardball tactics to relocate seniors. They see the plan as continuing a history of broken promises and botched public housing rebuilds in gentrifying areas.

Communist Caucus members Ben M & Sebastian FG spoke with Madrid Tenants Union organizer Pablo Pérez Ruiz about the tenants uprising that has broken out across the Spanish state, and the looming general strike uniting labor with the tenants movement. Read in Spadework below.
Attempts to "trojan horse" socialism by obscuring its opposition to capitalism, seeking office to tinker as technocrats rather than struggle alongside and among the working class, is the politics of fear born from the Red Scare that the communist left has rightfully abandoned.
Can DSA become an organization where the struggles of public housing residents find a place in our deliberative democracy and our struggles for socialism?
The delegate election in NYC will test DSA's ability to be a place where different parts of the working class can meet.
Replying to @w2wdsa
We are proud to be in solidarity with public housing residents defending their homes against demolition. We must build DSA into a democratic arena of working-class struggle where all people can organize, fight for issues most important to them, and build the power to win.
