Go get those Dad miles!
We celebrate the predawn meal preparations, the gear stuffed into SUVs, the triumph of fitting in exercise between bedtime routines and tomorrow's breakfast prep. We salute the parents who demonstrate daily that commitment doesn't need ideal circumstances, just some Dad/Mom miles
How you think about goals matter
I want to be able to do Dad Miles 5 hrs a week
VS
I want to finish this 70.3
The latter is much more fragile and can leave you in a weird state and having a hard time continuing exercise if its taken away from you (weather, injury, illness etc)
A coach will do all this
A great coach will tell you which ones actually matter for the moment in time and plan and navigate the athlete through the ebbs and flows of signal or noise
i want an app for the human body:
- understand who I am (a beast) who is trying to run sub 5 min mile, plays tennis and bball
- start with a movement assessment. this should give me a report card on each section of my body and where I struggle. call out any asymmetry
- watch me do a squat, run, shoot a basketball, hit some tennis balls, sit on my ass at work (seriously). Help me understand how my body is performing during these different patterns. Are all my muscles firing/not firing when they should be? Is there a body position that is compromised by weakness? Any difference between my left and right side? Any movements that put specific muscles (like my hamstring) at risk of straining? What exercises should I do given these activities and activity duration
- build an all encompassing plan (strength, cardio, mobility) that will help me reach my goals. For example if I want to run a sub 5 min mile do I need to do 12x400s with 90 seconds rest at 72 seconds? If I want to dunk do I need to be able to deadlift 1 zillion pounds?
- Over time, based on my log and video, tell me: here's working or not working. Dynamically change my program to make sure things are working
- When I’m doing the work: I want a form coach. A real hardass who's watching me do my squats, my deadlifts, etc.
- Give me a list of everything I have to do that day. Except rest. Never tell me to rest
- Indulge me in my wacky requests: I have flat feet. Is that why my glute's been bothering me? Is there any link there?
Almost done with the English version of this book
WOULD recommend !
Great info to into the nuance and current X discourse on wearables and data overall and how to program it
Even though some of the info is not new to us ,
"everything is the same , everything is different" - @inaki_delaparra
Its always great to see it from a different prospective, might be a way that you can use to connect with an athlete from a different angle
Mi primer libro, espero que les guste.

Consistency as a father and an endurance athlete comes down to simple math ,,
-control your night > morning
-predictable workout weeks for you and family
-execute the required work
-be completely present when you walk through the door
Dad Miles: Easy run with striders , and we’ll do it again!
Followed by 3 up the stairs runs for water bottles , folders and a backpack , it was like day 1 all over again
Dad Miles: Easy aerobic ride , focus on easy riding
Done in time to do some walking with the kids and having some candy
Dad Miles hack for those looking for a bike
You get the most notable improvements in performance and components as you go up the 1-5k range
5-10k range is mostly marginal gains that usually only make a big difference in the pro peloton
Dad Miles: Easy with strides , first day with long sleeves, winter is coming
Done in time for family breakfast!
Interventions ≠ adaptations
Interventions ≠ adaptations
Interventions ≠ adaptations
Replying to @dwrowland
I think this would be confusing an acute physiological response with a chronic adaptation.
VO₂ kinetics don’t operate independently in each repetition.
In 30/15 or 30/30 protocols, oxygen uptake remains elevated during recovery; depending on intensity and work:rest ratio, substantial time near VO₂max can accumulate.
2 athletes with the same VO₂max but different VLamax profiles won’t necessarily experience the same metabolic stimulus from an identical interval session.
And since when did time above 90% VO₂max become a validated surrogate for VO₂max adaptation?
Longer intervals may generate more time near VO₂max and that doesn’t automatically make them superior.
You’re measuring 1 response to training and assuming it explains the adaptation and those are two different things.
Only my opinion based on what I have seen in the lab, field and with athletes in triathlon, running, motorsport and combat sports 🤙
Dad Miles: Nothing but drills this am , have to get faster
Ready for Family breakfast and school drop off
A bit confused with this one too
But hopefully it’ll show a ton of new people that triathlon is not just Ironman™️ and that there’s a ton of more options to participate
Wait… what?!
World triathlon are partnering with Hyrox?
Do I now need to race shirtless, lift heavy objects in transition and shit myself on the run or..?
Consider me confused.
