Water quality tests in Bezuidenhout Valley have confirmed that samples collected on 23 and 25 October meet the required microbiological and chemical standards. The precautionary water quality alert has been lifted, and Johannesburg Water will arrange for the water supply to affected properties to be reopened as soon as practically possible. Residents in the affected properties may resume normal water use, including drinking and cooking. They are encouraged to run their taps briefly to flush their internal plumbing. We thank residents for their patience and cooperation during the testing process.

Earlier today, I joined the Minister of Electricity, Dr Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, for a community engagement in ward 50, Doornkop, to address electricity supply challenges affecting residents. Following the engagement, Eskom teams will continue on the ground attending to damaged transformers and the necessary connections to restore electricity supply. I thank the Minister for his intervention in helping us unlock these challenges. We also urge residents to purchase electricity and pay for their consumption to support the sustainability of our electricity services. Government is also working on measures to support indigent households, including unemployed residents and pensioners, with further details to be announced by the Minister.

Townships like Naledi were left with dust where there should have been grass, and bare streets where there should have been shade. That green divide was designed, and we are closing it by design. Today we turned the sod on Nape Street Park in Soweto, which will give residents a full-size soccer field, an outdoor gym, a jogging track, playgrounds and an amphitheatre for the community. To the residents, this park is yours, so protect it.

As the city of Johannesburg, we thank Minister Ntshavheni for bringing this initiative to our City and the residents of Kliptown for partnering with us. Government can lead these efforts, but lasting change requires communities to take ownership of their neighbourhoods.

This morning, I joined Minister in The Presidency, Khumbudzo Ntshavheni, in Kliptown for the Love Your Street service delivery programme, alongside senior government officials, NGOs, civil society organisations and local residents. Too many of our parks and open spaces have been neglected, left overgrown and poorly lit, creating environments where crime and Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) can thrive. Through this programme, we are reclaiming these spaces by cleaning up public areas and planting trees outside Kliptown Court to help create safer, cleaner and more welcoming environments for our communities. We are also raising awareness about how to report abuse and access support services. The trees planted form part of the Presidential 1 Billion Trees Campaign, contributing to a greener, more sustainable and resilient Johannesburg.

Work is underway to complete the Kopanong Sports Complex, and I am pleased to see this community landmark take shape as a home for sport, recreation and community life in Ivory Park. Through the Johannesburg Development Agency (JDA), and as part of the Ivory Park Urban Development Framework, we are upgrading the sports facilities and improving the public space around the complex. Investing in places like Kopanong is about more than buildings. When it is complete, it will give our young people room to play, give local talent a place to grow, and give residents a space to come together. #JoburgUpdates

While our President took the campaign door to door across Johannesburg today, I was on another front of the same mission. As a member of the Gauteng Provincial Task Team (PTT), I honoured an invitation from the Nazomndeni Branch in Ward 52, Zone 8, where volunteers and the Ward Councillor joined me to assess the readiness of our election machinery. Campaigns are won on the ground, through strong machinery rooted in our voting districts and branches, and Nazomndeni is ready. We can confidently say our foot soldiers are ready as we head to the polls on 4 November 2026.

Residents are urged to exercise caution following reports of a private truck selling water on 9th Avenue in Bezuidenhout Valley. The source and quality of the water have not been verified, and residents are advised not to purchase water from this truck, as its safety for consumption cannot be guaranteed. Water supplied by Johannesburg Water’s authorised tankers is free of charge and must not be sold. Alternative water supply arrangements are coordinated through Ward Councillors. Residents are encouraged to report suspicious water sales to Johannesburg Water on 010 061 4470, providing the location and vehicle registration number where possible. #JoburgUpdates #WaterSafety

Initial water quality results for the affected section of Bezuidenhout Valley show no indication of contamination. However, full microbiological results are still awaited, and precautionary measures remain in place while testing is finalised. I urge affected residents to continue following the guidance issued by the City and to refrain from using the water until Johannesburg Water officially confirms that it is safe. #JoburgUpdates

I am on the ground conducting an oversight visit of the Lilian Ngoyi Street Rehabilitation Project – Phase 2, engaging with the contractor and the project team to assess progress and ensure that we deliver on our commitment to residents by 31 October 2026, weather permitting. While the possibility of rain could affect the timeline by a few days, progress is being made, and we remain focused on completing this important road rehabilitation project.
