The IRS is lying to you. The supreme Court has maintained from 1916 (1) to 2024 (2) that the income tax is an excise, not a direct tax. The IRS says that it's a direct tax (3) even though they quietly acknowledge their own website is not the rule of law (4). Links in 🧵
My mother in law keeps planting stuff in my patios and they keep dying because nobody waters them. But I finally have my auto watering system running for a few months now and I can finally bring her a couple fruits that I plucked this morning.
😂😂😂 so true. I feel like Airbnb started as a way to make a little extra income off property you already owned and weren't using. Now people want to buy houses just to turn them into passive income. And they are so lazy they want the income to be passive. Really passive. Like not have to do anything at all. So lazy.
You're literally saying "I have some money and therefore I'm entitled to other people's money without contributing anything of actual value to society."
Still a better candidate than Gale Adcock or Philip Hensley.
Just reading the first page and I realize how difficult this is going to be because I'm going to have to remember names and I'm terrible w that 🤣 maybe @jeffcharlesjr will finally teach me how
When the government wants to make something more expensive, they pay to have it destroyed. They do this with food, milk, cars, and many other things.
Why not just give the money to the car companies? Because that looks bad. Instead of boosting auto profits by giving them tax discounts or subsidies, they spend that money on forcing prices up.
For anyone curious about what it actually looked like to kill a generation of functioning cars, here’s an actual video from 2009 and brief explanation:
The dealer first replaces the oil with sodium silicate solution. It’s a clear-ish liquid that crystallizes under extreme heat. As the engine warms up the solution begins to form small abrasive crystals in the oil system that shred the bearing and score the cylinder walls.
Within seconds of starting the car you can see smoke billowing from the exhaust, this is the crystals scratching the cylinder walls and leaving small grooves for oil and solution to leak past into the combustion chamber and ignite/evaporate, producing the white smoke.
Pretty soon the entire crankcase is full of crystals and freshly shredded metal flakes, the engine seizes. It took about 40 seconds in this video. Some engines reportedly lasted up to 7 minutes, but all were destroyed. That strikes me as sort of sad in a way, like watching a great warrior slowly lose a heroic last stand.
Now, this is the part that gets insanely wasteful. These cars were sent to federally approved recycling facilities where they had 180 days to sell the non-engine parts before they were required to prove that they had shred the entire thing into scrap steel.
But, in talking to a guy who ran one such facility at the time, he typically just sent them straight to the crusher. The timeframes allotted weren’t long enough to dismantle all of the cars, and even if you could, the marginal prices of the parts was greatly diminished. You cannot sell 1000 transmissions when only 50 went bad that year, they became worthless.
So just like that, in order to increase prosperity and save the environment, 677,000 entire running cars and trucks were turned directly into rebar worth a few cents per pound.
The entire Obama administration was like a chapter out of atlas shrugged.
Your average politician giving free rides to his voter base 🤣
"No I like you, you couldn't be one of those lying, cheating, corrupt politicians that's voted for everything I hate about government"
In 1973, college girls in Santa Cruz would get into a stranger's car and spend the ride guessing what the killer looked like. The driver was the killer.
His name was Ed Kemper. Students had been warned to accept rides only from cars with a university sticker. His mother worked at UC Santa Cruz, so he had one.
He was 6 foot 9, and his IQ had tested at 145. At 15 he shot and killed his grandparents. He was released at 21, against the advice of the hospital's psychiatrists, and in November 1972 his juvenile record was erased. By then he had already killed three times.
The day after he killed a 15-year-old girl named Aiko Koo, he sat in front of a panel of psychiatrists for a parole check. They found no reason to consider him dangerous.
He had wanted to be a cop, but he was rejected for being too tall. So he drank with cops instead, at a bar across the street from the courthouse, and asked them how the investigation was going.
Kemper says a detective once came to his house to take away a gun he wasn't supposed to have. The loaded .22 he had used in the murders was under the front seat of his car. A purse, a book bag and the IDs of his last two victims were in a box in his bedroom closet. The detective left thinking he was a nice, helpful guy.
In the video below, recorded in prison in 1984, Kemper tells these stories himself.
In April 1973 he killed his mother and her best friend, then called the Santa Cruz police from a phone booth in Colorado to confess. They thought it was a joke and told him to call back later.
He asked for death by torture and got life instead. He is 77 now and was denied parole again in 2024.
Psychiatrists, cops and the girls in his passenger seat all looked at him and saw nothing. Who was supposed to stop him?
FINALLY got Affinity Photo running in wine. ChatGPT helped although I know there was a lot of underlying support from wine devs and hackers.
This is amazing!! So much more usable than virtualbox. It still has quirks but they are easier to deal with than the sluggish ess of running an entire windows stack.
@AncapAir pretty excited about this 🤣 it's always been a better app than Photoshop and for a long time it was pay once and own forever
Stock trading is really a long game of musical chairs.
Except for dividends, profit is reinvested into a company. More people want that stock and it goes up. Most trading is done without the company, which means you aren't really investing in the company, you're taking over someone else's investment. You get in, they get out.
There is no finish line where the company wins and just shuts down. No "Our work here is done, we are still profitable but we are closing."
That means that the only end is actually going broke. It could be bought by another company but thats basically transferring the same eventuality.
When a company ends, it doesn't matter how much profit or cash there is. It can't pay the shareholders is trading at, and instead it falls to zero. People want to get rid of it. The only buyer's are suckers that think they can make a comeback, or people who think if they buy up all the stock when it's cheap enough, they can make their money back in liquidation. These people will buy the stock for far less than anyone who held, hoping to earn profit.
Liquidation never pays out for the main holders, because the valuation of the stock was never just a sum of its assets that could be easily liquidated to equally buy back all the stock for what it was trading. It was a combination of both liquid and illiquid assets, debts, investments, and most importantly, the promise of expected future revenue.
So who really profits?
Early investors and founders get the stock sometimes for less than the scrappers will pay when it winds down. The stock will ultimately have a very skewed and distorted bell curve that starts at 0 and ends at 0. The early investors will hold until there is enough interest for others to buy the stock from them. Late investors may trade this around but ultimately they are going to lose as a whole.
CIA says now is the time to come together against a regime of broken promises.
The day after trump makes a post about swamping the vote 🤣🤣
