Conservatives accuse the Liberals of letting corporate lobbyists write Canada's immigration plan.
Michelle Rempel Garner said she'd "wager a fairly large bet" that Mark Carney is "primarily informed on setting immigration levels by corporate lobbyists." His real agenda, she said, is a "low-wage, no hope scenario driven by corporate profit."
Hours later, at the immigration committee, Conservatives moved to recommend lower levels before the Liberal plan lands next week.
Did a single Liberal defend the numbers? Not one. They shut the debate down. Twice.
Youth unemployment sits at 13%. Liberal MP Peter Fragiskatos admitted international students "have been used as a revenue stream."
So who exactly is this system built for?

#BREAKING The Ethics Commissioner told MPs today Carney's screen is run by Carney's own people, he never sees the internal reviews, and he never asked about the Brookfield firms left off the list.
"Inflation risks have increased, and we decided to increase our policy rate."
First hike since 2023. Canadians are already paying more at the pump, and now they're paying more on their loans too.
Macklem says it won't feel good right away. He's right about that much.

POILIEVRE: The Liberal tanker ban is a "multi-billion dollar GIFT to Donald Trump's America."
Canada is losing $26 a BARREL selling to the U.S.
A company is ready to ship 250,000 barrels a day from Prince Rupert to world markets. What's stopping it? "This Prime Minister and his tanker ban."
The Liberals' answer? They dodged the question.
WHERE ARE ALL THESE PEOPLE GOING TO LIVE?
Michelle Rempel Garner just torched the Liberals in Question Period for jacking up immigration while their own officials warn about housing.
The Liberals' answer? A canned talking point.
Then she brought up the housing minister's reported $10 MILLION real estate portfolio: "That must be nice."
Grand Chief Stewart Phillip on the Conservatives’ plan to repeal DRIPA:
“We’re not going to stand idly by while the government-elect does, in fact, rip it up. That’s a declaration of war.”
British Columbians just handed the Conservatives a majority with repeal as a top priority. One unelected leader’s response to a clear majority mandate: label it a declaration of war.

"Is there no ceiling?" Conservative MP Michael Guglielmin pressed Transport Minister Steven MacKinnon on Alto rail. The PBO says up to $113 billion.
MacKinnon: "First of all, we don't have overruns."
No price cap. No walk-away number.

Democracy Watch counts 31,806 violations of the Lobbying Act or Code since 2018. The group says not one of those lobbyists was publicly named or penalized.
Lobbying Commissioner Nancy Bélanger at the ethics committee on Monday: "There's no tools in my toolbox."
Democracy Watch calls her claim that all she can do is refer cases to the RCMP false. The Federal Court and the Federal Court of Appeal ruled the commissioner has the clear legal power to publicly find a lobbyist in breach of the Code. Bélanger did exactly that herself in a February 2024 ruling.
Duff Conacher says the Liberal MPs on the committee read questions "prepared for them by the powers that be in their party."
So the watchdog says she can't bite. Democracy Watch says she has had teeth all along.

Lobbying Commissioner on the B.C. "condo bailout": "Yes, I opened a preliminary investigation. I can't say more about it."
Same hearing: "There's no tools in my toolbox."
So the watchdog is looking. She just can't bite.

Bloc MP @luctheriaultbq got the answer. @AaronGunn has chased this file since August. @jamiljivani, @Gab_Hardy and chair @JohnBrassardCPC pressed her on the loopholes.

CBC platformed Camosun political science instructor Daniel Reeve to analyze Premier-designate Lorne Doerkson and somehow forgot to mention the tiny detail that Reeve himself ran as an NDP candidate (and worked as a ministerial aide to NDP Health Minister Corky Evans)
Here’s the “neutral expert” take they ran: “I thought one of the things that jumped out to me is that they are going to go that one of the first things that the premier elect suggested is a financial basically walking through of the budget. And I think that from that analysis, they're going to say, oh, my God, it's worse than we thought. And now we're going to have to impose a whole bunch of cuts so that we don't raise taxes and so that we don't cut health care. And that. That's going to be the financial message that's going to hopefully, from his perspective, hold that center right to kind of far right coalition together and also kind of pin the problems of his government on the past.”
Just another dispassionate academic, right? The same lifelong NDP activist who spent years organizing campaigns and working inside an NDP government is now on the public broadcaster framing the new Conservative government as a cynical cut-and-blame operation aimed at “center-right to far-right” voters. Disclosure optional, apparently
CBC’s mountain of omissions continues @CBCOmbud @BrodieFenlon
#cdnpoli B.C. Premier-designate Lorne Doerkson says he remains committed to repealing DRIPA, the province's Indigenous rights law, telling reporters Sunday it "has not worked in this province." He said repeal legislation is likely in the spring session.
Doerkson to the doubters: "I am leader."
Day one, he orders an independent review of the NDP's books. "If there is a billion-dollar error in our books, I am terrified to think what else might be there."

#bcpoli Plot twist in Ladysmith-Oceanside: the NDP now leads by 13.
Election night had Conservative Kris McNichol up 88. Elections BC's latest update shows Stephanie Higginson ahead 13,380 to 13,367, making the seat count 63-28-2.
Within recount range. Final count Nov. 6 to 10.
Five weeks ago the B.C. Conservatives were in pieces. Last night they won a majority.
Lorne Doerkson: "A lot of British Columbians have felt like Victoria forgot about them, like the map maybe stopped at Hope. But tonight, the whole map counts for British Columbia."
The full victory speech, and what he has to do now.

David Eby and his fellow poverty pimps have been sent to the back benches & I couldn't be happier.
P.S. Thank you for calling the election early. Really. We couldn't have done it without you.
Emily Lowan @Emily_Lowan had something going. Everyone I talked to on the ground said her working-class policies were landing. Housing costs, wages, the everyday grind. That stuff resonated with regular people. Then she started talking about land acknowledgements and SOGI and tried to out-NDP the NDP. That's where she lost the plot. I don't know if it's because she's young or because she actually believes that nonsense. Doesn't matter. The second she went full progressive activist, she stopped talking about the things that actually keep British Columbians up at night. Had they stuck to the working-class message and ignored the social BS, they would've done better. Two seats is about right for a party that's still more interested in virtue-signaling than governing. If they ever want more than that, they need to drop the activist cosplay and focus on what actually matters to people who work for a living.
Eby called a snap election because he couldn't wait to hear what B.C. thought of him. Now he knows.

Replying to @Conservative_BC
To the BC Conservatives: protecting working British Columbians needs to mean something concrete.
I’m a Red Seal electrician. I put years into learning my trade, paying taxes and building a life here. When employers claim a shortage, I want to know what wages they offered, how many apprentices they hired and what they did to retain experienced workers.
My contribution should earn me a fair chance to get ahead. It shouldn’t leave me feeling like a labour cost somebody is trying to reduce.
If you want my continued support, push for immigration levels tied to housing, healthcare and real workforce needs. Use provincial training, procurement and enforcement powers to reward employers who develop workers here. Demand evidence before accepting another “labour shortage” claim.
Workers coming here deserve fair treatment too. Nobody benefits when employers can exploit one group to undermine another.
I voted for you to stand up for working people. Show me how you’ll protect the value of our work, because another speech about affordability won’t pay the bills.
