A report from FIFA Land, where a beleaguered boss held a crisis meeting, said “sorry” & told his critics to put questions in writing so he could address them at the next meeting. After the deadline for bids to run against him. And everyone shrugged. nytimes.com/athletic/7693083…

FIFA will seek to make amendments to its disciplinary code to prevent a repeat of the scandal that engulfed the World Cup when United States forward Folarin Balogun’s ban was controversially suspended in the middle of the tournament after receiving a red card. On Thursday, the FIFA Council — the decision-making arm of world football’s governing body, which includes its president Gianni Infantino, eight vice-presidents and 28 other members — will meet for the first time since the World Cup. It will be presented with an amendment to the regulations aimed at preventing similar scenarios from playing out once again. 📝 @AdamCrafton_ 🔗 nyti.ms/47TGhdG

Arsenal have told staff that redundancies at the club are being planned. The club told staff the intention is to make 60 positions redundant in a bid to make significant savings, with cuts set to be across a number of departments. The club’s coaching staff will be among the areas unaffected by the cuts, along with the performance backroom staff for the men’s and women’s team, the club’s community operation, the Arsenal Foundation, security staff and staff dedicated to the women’s team. A consultation is under way and the decision could yet be subject to change. More from @Dan_Sheldon_ & @gunnerblog nyti.ms/4zAqix9

The president of the Asian football federation has appeared to soften his stance on Gianni Infantino and FIFA reform in a letter to the under-fire president of soccer’s governing body. Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa has previously been highly critical of Infantino and held the position that he should step down from his role in the wake of the Swiss-Italian’s failed FFE plan.
