This new approach is transforming how early Meccan surahs can be understood … and it allows for a much deeper and more consistent integration of new Arabian epigraphic and archaeological research than the older frameworks. This article is a good introduction to how it works.
My latest article on Oases of Wisdom on the topic of water and rain-based imagery in the Quran.
I reconstruct an alternative translation given by Daniel Beck (@DanielABeck9) and explain why I think this paradigm will become central in Queanic Studies.

Mecca corpus is own book, next year, and material is relevant for DIANA vol. 6...many things to do. As for the other thing - we don't keep things hidden for fun, but await permits and permissions....

Comparing (1) Safaitic BES24 1.1, h ś‘hqm rwḥ m wqr, with (2) the Qur’ān, Q 51, fa-l-ḥāmilāti wiqrā, fa-l-ğariyāti yusrā. Al-Jallad discusses BES24 1.1 in “Ancient Allah,” but he does not address quranic usage of w-q-r. There are intriguing parallels. academia.edu/129395185/Al_Ja…
Al-Jallad suggests (“The Religion and Rituals of the Nomads,” p70) that orphan (ytm) references in Safaitic epigraphy are a metaphor for one deprived of divine favor. If read in a similar mode, BES24 1.1, Q 51, and Q 93-94 would use beautifully consistent seasonal aid imagery.

It's used for when Danel "implores/adjures/casts a spell" on the clouds in the Aqhat Epic, during the terrible drought. The noun ṣily[atu] is rendered šidarni (Hurrian for "curse") in a polyglot word list.

My new note comparing two recent studies of Q 53 (one being mine) that independently conclude it uses imagery of Venus observed in descent to identify Allah's angelic messenger, both studies using historical astronomical analysis. academia.edu/172768873/Surah…
For direct comparison of the two studies, here's a link to Zaman's thesis from 2020 (though UMD has a temporary outage). Note the innovative use of Stellarium to analyze the real-world astronomical events visible from Mecca in the timeframe 610-615 CE. drum.lib.umd.edu/items/5344a…
And here's a link to my much more recent study, coming to similar conclusions but also disagreeing in some key respects. It's really a joy to be able to see and compare detailed extensive analysis of the same issues. academia.edu/165799626/Mu%E1…
