Interesting to read their glosses for "existential" from right *before* the AI boom and AI existential risk being commonly discussed. There is even a section heading "Big Tech"!... in which the "existential threat" is the legal threat TO tech monopolies: dictionary.com/articles/word…

This weird, unliterary story actually had a few different points of origin I ended up twisting together. The challenge to write a narrative without scene was part of it, but also there was a story ending I loved—a schlocky (but delightful) metnarrative twist ending in an old 1/2
My new science fiction story “D.G.S.F.” is up at Bewildering Stories! Written from spite: a mentor insists fiction is inherently visual & the reader must always be able to picture the scene. So I set out to write a story where you could NEVER picture the scene & there's NO visual

2/2 Fredric Brown mobster story from the 40s that seemed dependent on the medium of print and the physical presence of the reader to pull off---I wanted to try coming up with a variation of that twist that would work on a webpage the reader might be browsing at any place or time

Unrelated but I love how the droste-effect story in the illustrated magazine page on the magazine page is typeset differently from the actual story on the outer level---maybe they gave the illustrator a mockup and then were forced to make some last-minute copy editing changes!

I swear I had no foreknowledge
(okay okay I know he never actually said it in the show but) why is Ensign Chekhov unloading office furniture at my university?

It does not exist anymore alas but a great addition to "CIA-tied literary magazine" conversation would have been the KGB lit mag (associated with the KGB bar in New York, where years back I did a few readings in the aptly-named Red Room): xitter.cf/kgbbarlitmag

It's actually "pa, in st., a king," which comes from an old fable in which a boy calls his father to the window because he recognizes the monarch lying out in the street, and the king rewards the boy for his meticulous attention to detail once reinstated
not looking up the etymology is painstaking "pains-taking" or "pain-staking"

I usually just let ghosting editors ghost and log it as a rejection, but a few days ago I shot out some passive-aggressive emails to places that never replied and as a result just broke my record for longest elapsed time between submission and rejection (2 days after this reply)

If I were the serpent with no wings and no crown I would be envious of the serpent that gets to have wings and a crown, essential unity and eternal recurrence and what-have-you be damned

In retrospect I think when I posted this people thought I was talking about the shadows but I was talking about the lizards
Found these two strange marks on my tire. What does it mean?
