Very excited to present a preprint of the first chapter of my thesis, which focuses the end of the LGM (Ice age / Last Glacial maximum) in Europe, and specifically the post-LGM Balkans.

Excited to see our new paper on the cover of Science!
Led by PhD candidate Christophe Brabant and a fantastic team of collaborators, we mapped 45 threats to over 21,000 freshwater species, helping identify where conservation is most needed.

There is a point to be made....that objective measures of stone tool variability are a lot more informative than a focus on (largely imaginary 'industries')....except the Aterian, we like that one :D Well done Timbrell et al., sciencedirect.com/science/ar…

In 4th-century BC Poland, a Celtic bronze helmet lay crushed in a pit of charred remains at a fort on the Amber Route. No comparable helmet of that time is known outside the Celtic world. How did it get so far north? @AntiquityJ #Archaeology #Poland archaeologyteahouse.com/stor…

You know Walther from the Old English "Waldere" and the Medieval Latin "Waltharius," but did you know that he also appears in 10 Medieval German texts?
All of the relevant German passages are edited and translated in "The Legend of Walther of Aquitaine: Medieval German Texts & Translations."

So it looks like the Bantu and hunter-gatherers suffered some calamity and population collapsed between about 600 AD and 1200 AD.
Perhaps a terrible disease epidemic with effects lasting centuries.
New preprint from @oguzparasayan looks at the origins of Bantu peoples and sequences four historical (~700BP) Congolese genomes. One interesting finding is a population contraction in both Bantu groups and hunter Gatherers ~1500 BP.
