I lived in a three bedroom apartment for 15 years and shared the rent control savings with a series of roommates. Many of them were living in their first apartment in the city or after a breakup.

The thing about rent controls is that mechanically it cannot help young people looking to move into the city for a job, or young families who want to upsize into bigger housing. which is why I'm so confused when young people are clapping like seals for it.

I would obviously never have called myself "woke" when that was somewhat a term of praise but I find it very pleasurable to call myself "woke 1.0" now that it's something you're supposed to hate. I've really feel I've been given a wonderful gift.
