Nooo it's not on you, the latest build needs a bit more time than we thought. For full transparency, since this is still a side project for us, life happens and our client work always comes first. We really tried our best and pulled a few late nights, but we weren't able to deliver on time. Sorry to everyone waiting for the new PowerMail build. We're working on it, and hopefully the Microsoft Store will validate the new release within the next few days! #winui #windows11 #windowsarm

I believe there is a correlation between launching new projects and the emergence of urgent client work

That's a brave one 🤣
You can now touch your losses.

A couple weeks ago, we introduced Surface Laptop Ultra, including our new magnetic USB-C power connector. One of the things we spend a lot of time on in Surface is getting the feel of an interaction just right. With this connector, it's about how the magnets guide it into place, the sound and LED that let you know it's connected, and how easily it releases. The team built hundreds of prototypes, experimenting with magnet sizes, positions, forces, and cable alignment. One of my favorite details: moving the magnets just 0.7mm changed the experience from needing a final push to smoothly finding its way into place. Once we found the right feel, the next challenge was making it repeatable. The team selected a prototype that captured the experience we wanted, then worked through simulations and multiple manufacturing iterations to reproduce that feel in production. And it had to hold up. Thousands of connection cycles, off-axis pulls, and tests for the kinds of forces a cable might experience when someone trips over it. The cable has another useful detail: flip it around, and you can charge other USB-C devices, like your phone. A lot of work across industrial design, mechanical engineering, reliability, and manufacturing to make one small interaction feel right.

"We've done tons of user tests on this, and it turns out it doesn't work. Touch surfaces don't want to be vertical. It gives great demo, but after a short period of time you start to fatigue, and after an extended period of time, your arm wants to fall off. It doesn't work. It's ergonomically terrible." - Steve Jobs on touch screen laptops 🤷‍♂️ Windows 8 was pushing touchscreen laptops in 2012, and parts of the tech press insisted touch didn’t belong on a PC... Can’t wait for the same idea to become “innovation” with an Apple logo 🥰
We’re glowing with excitement over the new MacBook Pro. You’ve gotta touch it to believe it.

In Q1, XBOX revenue declined 2% YoY, compared with a 10% decline a quarter ago, while our accountability margin improved. Minecraft and WoW Forever set records, Call of Duty had its most acclaimed release in more than a decade, and our PC platform revenue grew double digits. Console sales remain constrained by supply, with more demand than consoles available. We’re working to get more consoles into players’ hands, including through our expanded refurbishment program. We’re making progress, with a lot more work ahead.

Make sure you give @loganaiyer a follow!
Excited to start posting and engaging here👋. I lead the Windows Platform + Developer team at Microsoft, where we spend a lot of time thinking about what it takes to make Windows a great platform to build on. I’m looking forward to sharing more of what we’re building, how we’re thinking about the engineering behind it, and what we’re learning along the journey. I’m here to listen, too. If you build on Windows, I’d love to hear what’s working, where there’s friction, and what you want us to be thinking about.

Sometimes Memory Management can be a bit random. Not sure how, but minimized the PowerMail RAM usage can go down to less than 30 MB ㄟ( ▔, ▔ )ㄏ

A fresh PowerMail build has landed! We’ve made significant improvements to our scam detection and prompt injection protection algos to help keep your email safe, even when using AI. We hope to wrap up testing today or tomorrow to send the new build out to our testers, including a few new ones from the wishlist ;)

some really good trackpad improvements for Windows 11 here. It’s the little things like this that count 👍
Friday’s Windows tip of the day! If you use a Windows PC with a touchpad and spend a lot of time scrolling through long documents, webpages, or code, this one’s for you. Three touchpad improvements we’ve been working on: accelerated scrolling, edge scrolling, and single-finger scrolling. Small details that make everyday navigation feel more natural and comfortable. Accelerated scrolling is available today, with edge scrolling and single-finger scrolling coming next week to WIP. Here’s a quick look at them in action:

A great Windows experience starts with strong fundamentals and is ultimately defined by the moments people experience every day. Our latest Windows 11 updates build on the foundational work we're doing across the product. They include more seamless phone-to-PC integration, a modernized Photos experience, a new Search experience, and new features for gamers. All designed to make everyday moments on your PC simpler and more intuitive. More on what the team has been working on: blogs.windows.com/windowsexp…

Crazy idea for @windowsinsider : implement Quicky Share into Windows for sending as well as receiving from Android, Windows & iOS devices. It should support: - All file types - Plain text / links 🙏🔮

Doing some performance optimizations for next week's closed beta release. The comparison here is a bit unfair, as we dynamically load and unload modules that haven't been used for a while, such as Calendar, Settings, Search, or the Results view. We intentionally take the hit of showing a shimmer for a second before these views load in favor of better RAM management. PowerMail also doesn't have the same level of complexity as Outlook, and on top of that, it's built natively with C# and WinUI 3. The hardest part is always finding the right balance. As a small app, we can make these decisions on a case-by-case basis, whether that means prioritizing better performance or a better/wors user experience

Crazy, all the best to all team members. BioWare was always special to me since I was a kid. Loved Neverwinter Nights and everything that came after

Lovely to see Win11 getting more native apps that are visually and functionally impressive!
