Had a great conversation with the map guy.
Had a great conversation with an editor.
Texting with an author.
Lining up the last day of the Kickstarter campaign, and the introduction of Hapax.
Hiked with my dad and brother up to Silver Lake this morning (the one above the Silver Lake Reservoir and by Silver Glance Lake--there are multiple Silver Lakes, it turns out).
The frost sparkling in our headlamps pre-dawn made it look like we were walking across a field of diamonds.
We saw two moose, awfully close up--they were standing on the trail less than a hundred feet in front of us. A bull and a cow, no calf, and they moved on peaceably.
We heard a sound like a jet overhead and it turned out to be quite a large rockslide on the other side of the canyon.
Great times.
We have hit $50,000!
The EPIC MAP is a go!

Well played.
🚨👶💈"UN BEBÉ CON BIGOTES"
En Ecuador informan que el RECIÉN NACIDO llegó al mundo con increíble cantidad capilar.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
El post presenta como un hecho reportado el nacimiento en Ecuador de un bebé con bigote, pero se trata de un video viral sin confirmación independiente de autenticidad o caso real específico. Medios locales destacan dudas y falta de verificación.

you like back covers for books?
we've got back covers
Got the bid back from the printers on making a slipcase. Just making the cases, forget about loading and shrinkwrapping them, would cost over $20 a case, and the minimum number we could buy would be 500.
So... I think we are probably NOT going to do slipcases. Bummer.

No show today! Taking care of a few things that need some immediate-ish attention.

Fun fact: an earlier version of the cover to book two was slightly different.
We're about to hit $50,000.

I kind of got behind in reading YouTube comments and replying to them. It was fun to play a little catchup this evening.
We've passed $49,000.

Story fodder, if nothing else.
A hole on the Moon just turned out to be the front door to a 50 km tunnel.
Japan’s Kaguya orbiter first spotted it. A pit about 50 metres wide and 50 metres deep, sitting in the Marius Hills on the Moon’s near side.
Then JAXA pointed the probe’s radar underground. The echoes came back with something huge: a lava tube roughly 100 metres wide, running about 50 km, and still intact. No collapse.
Scientists think it was carved by volcanic activity around 3.5 billion years ago. There may even be ice or water locked in the rocks inside.
That’s why JAXA thinks it could become a lunar base. Shelter from radiation, micrometeorites and brutal temperature swings, all built in.

Today's bonus High Low Brow episode is a reading from Witchy Winter. Etienne Ukwu, the bad son of the Bishop of New Orleans, lines up his support.

The Kickstarter campaign is on a bit of a roll. We passed $48,000 this morning. Can we hit the $50,000 stretch goal by the weekend?

At this very moment, my biggest focus is avoiding being scammed by bots designed to exploit the marketing insecurities of writers.
